Douchebag!

Quote:
Even that bright light in an otherwise dank tunnel -- a windmill slam by Toronto’s DeMar DeRozan after Sonny Weems passed it off the side of the backboard, deservedly earning the night’s lone perfect score -- was marked as much by the skill of the passer than the dunker.

This year? There was nothing. Robinson could hardly get worked up about facing off with a rookie from north of the border, and no other notable rivalries filled the void.

Hollinger's a ***. He's just mad that there's no stats that he can base the Dunk Contest on. He's someone who can't watch basketball unless there's a huge amount of statline to support it.

Meh, I wouldn't even call it a shot at Toronto. Afterall he IS a rookie from north of the border. I think it was more a slag at Nate, Nate didn't bring it.

I have to agree with zachus I don't get the "slap" here. Robinson really didn't bring anything and its a fact Derozan is a Rookie North of the Border.

Sounds like sensitive Raptors fans to me

Plus - throwing the ball off the side of the backboard isn't exactly rocket science. Way to take a potshot at DeMar's accomplishment.

Really? So the fact that he said north of the border is just a passing comment. Whenever someone takes a shot at the Raps for being a non "American" team and slagging us in general there's always a few that defend it for some reason. Saying we're too sensitive, and this is a Hollinger comment. Yeah, i guess Hollinger loves the Raps...i forgot.

Forgive me everyone, my bad!

If this was a rookie playing in Chicago, would they have said Nate wasn't excited to go against a rookie from Chicago? The answer is hell no. It seems almost like an attempt to justify the lack luster dunk competion because one of the players plays in Canada and that's why Nate was what...bored?

First off Nate won the competition because Demar didn't do anything spectacular enough to win it. A competition graded by the fans and you going against a 2 time champ you have to bring it a little more. Its almost like facing the champ in a boxing fight.

Secondly, its true Toronto is in a different country and does get treated a little differently because well its in Canada. Ratings for basketball in Canada are terrible (check the ratings its true) and a rookie from Houston or Dallas would bring a hell of a lot more interest than someone from Toronto. Chicago or LA I agree problably the same tired old competition would happen. To get pissed that Toronto gets catered differently than other markets is just not knowing. TNT gets a tiny segment of ratings from Canada and even regular raptor games are crappy in ratings. If you dont' like it well protest to Canada to start their own league. Of course once it becomes Canada's doing its automatically LAME so watch out

Bingo! And that's all that needed to be said, period!

Why wasn't the fact that Wallace plays for a shit market like Charlotte brought up. He was horrible didn't get out of the first round and .....maybe brought the dunk contest down because he's on a shit team in a piss poor market.

Another thing, you brought up the Canadian ratings. What the hell does that have to with the lackluster dunk contest or Hollinger's assessment of it?

Ok then, change the heading. Me and the first few posters on here are over sensitive and delusional. I guess where Demar plays has a bearing on why Nate wasn't motivated. What was i thinking?

Er. It's pretty clear that it is a slight. I can't say that it's a big deal, but yes it was meant as a backhand.
If I am standing in my office and a co-worker says to me that the presentation he just did would have been better if he did not have this "Newfie" guy on his team, I'll know what he meant by that. I can say, "so what, he mentioned he's from Newfoundland", but get real. It's ignorance and it means he is pointing out that individual as being less.

plus the comment about derozan's dunk being more about the passer ... what an asshole - about a week ago he wrote an article about the playoff race in the east, and how it's getting closer with the teams below the top 4 are starting to catch up, and there was not a single mention of Toronto - it's like we're not even there.
