history repeats itself ... again

one final element in this bizarre deja-vu

in the 2006-2007, we won a crazy game in washington on a miracle shot by mo pete. Had we lost that game, we would have played the same wizards in the playoffs, a team that was without arenas (and jamison if I'm not mistaken). Instead, because of that extra win, we got to play the nets.

fast forward to 2014, because of the shameless tanking by the nets, instead of playing washington, we'll be playing the nets again.

this better not end with a 4-2 loss, because if that happens, I'm not watching the 2020-2021 season.

Why did someone -1 this post? It was well done and spot on.

It's going to crush our fan base if we lose to the same team again after the same sort of season we had last time we were in the playoffs.

Bill Haverchuck 04-16-2014 10:34 PM

Last time we were in the playoffs we lost to Orlando, not the Nets. :mattyd:

Bill Haverchuck 04-16-2014 10:36 PM

This really does make the first round matchup more exciting, in my opinion. Like I'm REALLY looking forward to this now. And if we win, it will mean much more to me than if we just beat the Wizards.

SteveTT 04-16-2014 10:36 PM

Even if we loose, we wanted a cultural change, this is a cultural change, don't back down. Everyone admirs Thibs and he would have done the same (he has done the same with his bulls).

jeffb 04-16-2014 10:37 PM

Pussy Nets!! Fuck them

Bill Haverchuck 04-16-2014 10:38 PM

I can't wait to see if Demar can react better to the playoff D than Carter did his first time in the playoffs. That young Raptor squad from 99-00' got swept by the experienced Knicks, but took a big step the following year. This will be good for Demar, Ross and Val. I hope Lowry is ready to lead, since he's essentially the "old vet" of our core players.

RaptorsandBuckeye FaN 04-16-2014 10:40 PM

Time to earn respect. The attitude of fans should be the same as DD, lets go. If Nets want Toronto(and they do), well, time to make them pay for what they wished for.

INSIDER 04-16-2014 10:41 PM

I'm glad we're playing the nets.
I fucking hate those tanking pieces of shit... When we beat them, it will be absolutely fantastic.

+1.

This is going to be exciting basketball, and Toronto/Nets will be the best matchup in the East. That is good for Raptors basketball.

My only fear is that instead of using Amir/JV as an advantage DC decides to go small and takes out one of Amir/JV to have 3 wings and a big like they have been playing with this season.

MikeToronto 04-16-2014 10:49 PM

Well, we do get the proper exposure... Just hope it won't be embarrassing, that's all.

Raps must play tough. Bigs, wings, point guards - maximum aggression, maximum speed, at all times, otherwise they don't stand a chance. They must try to run and grind the older team into the floor.

fancylad 04-16-2014 11:20 PM

well i don't like our chances, but i'll say this: I think we're more capable of taking these nets than we were in '06/'07. And if we can indeed take this series, then i think we could go A LOT further in the playoffs than any of us could have dreamed.

but if i'm to predict this series, i will call Nets in 6.

LET'S GO RAPTORS!!!!! 04-16-2014 11:22 PM

This team CANNOT and I mean CANNOT pull the s**t it's been use to doing in the season, a slow/s**ty start in the 1st quarter and then go to an extra gear in the 4th. Can't let this veteran team set the tone from the start of the game.

10gizzle 04-16-2014 11:23 PM

We have a debt to repay.

I'm actually ecstatic we're facing these cunts in round 1.

Winning this series would make this entire year a success in my books.

Amen to that.

Edit: But I wouldn't mind taking one from the Heat too. :P

The Diamond Scorpion 04-17-2014 08:02 AM

We don't need to worry about history repeating itself. Raps are going to beat the Nets this time :yeah:

MBailey85 04-17-2014 08:24 AM

Yes history will repeat itself....

Just like how the Raps lost to the Knicks the first time around then beat em the second time,Toronto will beat the Nets on its second playoff series attempt.

This series will get ugly, fast, in terms of physicality.

Tyler Hansbrough and Chuck Hayes better bring it. In hockey terms, we need them to be enforcers and retaliate against every single hard foul the Nets might hack us with. None of that pussy MWP shit, and I want to see the old Tyler last year in the playoffs.
