Default highlights, updates, why move?

Why can't highlights have their own thread?? I came here to see the highlights this morning, and instead of having them easily accessible in the nice thread that Jeff started, I have to search them out in the game thread.

I know as a mod, the lure to group things together and organize things is large because so often those mod powers don't need to be used. But it quite often makes things less user friendly imo.

Same goes with when their is a thread on whatever subject, and the thread get's condensed with garbage. Somebody posts an update in a new thread, and then it gets moved to the back of the garbage thread.

Just my two cents, I find it more difficult scanning through long threads for updates, than having to scan through a few extra threads on the main page.

I'm the one that moved them.

Do you guys really feel three threads for a preseason game is necessary?

Two being started with in minutes of each other, intsead of just editing the original bad link in the first one.

Personally, I find multiple threads on the same topic more annoying to sift through than one thread.

I completely agree. If this is what's done. Then why the hell do we have 3 threads for every regular season games (3?). One for the game, one for links to the game (makes no sense), and another thread after the game to discuss more about the game, of course that's after the actual game thread is locked?

Why not have links in the actual game thread and then continue the discussion after the game all in the same thread if there's so much clutter?

im the newest here, so maybe i'll be the most impartial, but having 3 different threads actually makes things so much more organized and user friendly dont you think?
when theres 30 something pages in the games thread, its almost impossible to find the post with the hilights or links to the game feed... would you want to search through hundreds of posts and pages to find the one post that has the links? i know i wouldnt... thats why it makes so much sense to have a separate thread for the links.
also, closing the game thread when the game is over starts a post game thread so that we can all talk about the game afterwards. theres a lot of posters who come in later in the evening and want to read about the post game, they dont want to have to search thru multiple pages in order to find the post game comments.... and doing this separates the game talk and the after-game talk.
having one big thread and trying to find things is a headache...
splitting things into 3 threads eases up having to search IMO. you have to understand jeff, you're usually here from the start to the end (you big raps lover you) so you know where things are posted, but a lot of people come a few hours later and dont know where to find what they are looking for.

First of all posting links is illegal and we try and keep it on the down low, which is why it is in a members only section.

Secondly, the regular season game threads end up being 400 posts that say "OMG" or "he sucks". That 's why the post game thread is there, so people don't have to sift through that.

Again, I didn't think we needed three fucking threads for a preseason game that generated minimal discussion to begin with. In the past we haven't even had game threads for every preseason game. Does everyone want a full out game thread, postgame thread and highlight thread for every preseason games?

And, I'm about to move this to the comments & suggestions section.

Is that okay or should I take a poll first?

Benzo should make a poll out of it, but first we should have a poll to decide if we should have a poll.
Or we could just let the powers that be around here do their thing.

A highlights thread isn't congesting the forum.

As you said, the game threads consist of "OMG", "HE SUCKS" "rabblerabblerabble". Why would I scour through that garbage on the off chance that someone posted the highlights.

And it's not like it's just this one time, it happens quite often.

I remember when Turkoglu signed. There was a major update that got posted in a new thread. This update got moved to the back of a 20 page garbage-o-thon which created what would of been a very easy "one-clicker" to get the info, into searching for the moved link in the last 5, 6 pages of the thread.

I'm just saying Acie. As a customer/user/whatever who is searching for Raptor information. More threads are actually ideal and makes the page more organized, than a bunch of merged threads.

To me, the highlights are seperate from whoever and whoever bantering back and forth during the game.

I personally don't mind if people shoot off some threads during a game and we get 4,5 different threads on different subject matter all applicable to what's going on in that game. Wouldn't that actually be cleaner than a big thread that is 90% one-word posts. I don't even know if there is any value in the game threads after Doc J's pre-game post. It's intimidating to log on and see a 400 post thread.

Just another example. I log-in at halftime, and the game thread is already 200+ posts, and I have something specific I want to discuss, game related. Wouldn't it make more sense to make a new thread rather than post on a thread moving so fast with garbage.

Obviously moderation is important. You can't have goofballs starting idiot threads every 5 minutes.

I'm just giving what I hope is useful feedback before the season starts.

Your comments are appreciated, brother.

You bring up some very valid points.

Everytime there was an update in those massive threads, we edited the title to reflect what page the update on.

Everything is a work in progress and we're trying to make it all run as smoothly as possible.

Perhaps we can get some other members/mods/admins to weigh in on the issues at hand.

the problem for me is the reasonableness of all the threads. one or two pertinent ones is fine, but we inevitably get 6 or 7. once one or two guys start posting extra threads related to a game, in no time a whole bunch of other guys do it, and all of a sudden we're at the 6 or 7 or more level. i'd rather have to hunt for a few things than sort through endless numbers of pointless threads about "did you see that dunk!" or "the refs in this game SUKKKKK!!!" we need to ensure that these things stay in the game threads.

on a related note, all highlights, video, streaming links, etc belong in the video vault, accessible to registered members only.

if we can find a way between these two issues, i'm fine with a couple of extra threads here and there. that's my two cents.

not to state the obvious, but why not go to nba.com and see the highlights in 2 clicks?
