'Hibbert' Technique Being Taught By Raptors To Valanciunas

You got Hibbert'dddd

Quote:

The Toronto Raptors have worked extensively with Jonas Valanciunas on the "Hibbert", which is jumping vertically to challenge shooters instead of reaching.

The Raptors are hoping Valanciunas gives them a strong interior presence on defense without succumbing to foul trouble.

"He's far more comfortable in the NBA games," Dwane Casey said. "More confident, moving with more confidence, understanding where to go, what to do. I thought it gave him a sense of belonging, that I belong here. He's got a little swagger from the Summer League. Just being one of our primary interior scorers will be a great year for him, quarterbacking out of the post. And defensively, understanding the nuances of the NBA, the speed of the NBA. We need a rim protector and he needs to be a rim protector for us."

It's not like Hibbert invented verticality. But it will mean a definite improvement in his game. He's already had calls against him that were undeserving. Over time he will start to get the benefit of the doubt and start getting no-calls that he might not deserve.

Indeed - although Hibbert seems to be developing a reputation with officials as the king of verticality. He's started getting the benefit of the doubt in a lot of situations last year.

Unfortunately, alot of Refs look at the color of your jersey when making calls. Alot of calls will be made on JV, when Hibbert will get the benefit of the doubt. Lets try it, but don't be suprised when your best big man gets fouled out or has limited minutes because of foul trouble.

JV naturally goes up and down its just him being a rookie he had boat load of bad calls against him where you can just throw your hands up and say why

once your known as a defensive players it seems you get away with a lot more even if your fouling guys, like hibbert against the knicks who was fouling melo on several plays but didn't get the call because of hibberts reputation
