Arrow Hedo Turkoglu has already crapped out in Toronto

From Kelly Dwyer:

Quote:
Remember, he was never very good to begin with, and though Turkoglu is tall and can sometimes shoot, even this guy at his absolute best from the ages of 31-to-35 will be nothing but rather awful. Relative the contract. And that's the best-case scenario.

And yet the team has another $43.8 million to pay him over the next four years. It's such a colossal bust that it almost seals Raptor GM Bryan Colangelo's take in our eyes. I don't care if the Raps are a 70-win team despite Hedo's presence, Turk's contract alone is worth a deciding opinion. And if it isn't enough for you, darlings, consider that Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnaniwill average nearly $20 million a year combined for the next three seasons, with Bargs' terrible deal moving toward 2015.

No cap room, no promise, no hope, and that's not even getting into the Chris Bosh situation. Would you like me to? If you're a fan of a team that could sign Bosh this summer, are you afraid his particular well has been poisoned? Because his play over the last month suggests it.

It starts with being smart. It always has. And the Raptors just didn't have that last summer. The Trail Blazers didn't, either, but they were given a reprieve because Hedo wanted to stay somewhat close to the Eastern seaboard.

As nasty as it is right now — with Hedo stealing money in the first year of his contract, blaming fans, playing terribly, and partying the night after calling off sick for work — this will only get worse. Even if the guy shapes up and gets everything right.

"Everything right." I mean it. Even that won't be enough. Do you know why?

Because he's not that great.

Bargs' contract isn't terrible at all.

I'm not Bargnani fan, by any stretch of the word, but that is a decent contract for him. Him and Bosh, paired with Weems and Wright, all 4 guys can keep their man in front of them and are making this team look a lot more competitive.

Bargs @ 10 mil cannot be compared to Hedo @ 10 mil.

Imo the only bad contracts we have are Calderon & Turkoglu and Jose can be moved. Even Hedo can be moved imo but what's the point since we'd have to take an equally poor contract in return.

blah blah blah.... Bargnani's contract is fine. Actually it's better than fine.

I still think Hedo can be servicable... or even possibly OK.

what a terrible article. as others have said, bargs' contract is actually pretty good, and he's still a good player to have on your team even if he's not a great rebounder. turkoglu was essential in the win last night, and although he and jose are getting paid a lot there is still flexibility in terms of getting rid of one of them in a Bosh trade (which may even make the other one more effective, or at least not redundant) or another move. while certainly not ideal, only the least imaginative kind of fan looks at the current siuation as unfixable.

i wonder what kelly dwyer is getting paid? most certainly more than he's worth...

I think people in general need to chill about Hedo. He might not be the player you were hoping for and the team's certainly disapointing this year but if you really look hard at some of our wins lately he's been a factor...last night included(as 'trane alluded to).

For this team to do anything significant in it's current incarnation we need Hedo so dumping on him and working yourselves up into a tizzy doesn't solve anything.

I agree Bargs contract is fine. He is a big that can shoot the ball well and does some other things ok. I dunno what TV Dwyer is watching. I guess its crap by association

well put SWAN.

Hedo isn't as bad as his detractors make him out to be. He's been subpar and his attitude has made him look worse, but he can still be a crafty player. Raptor fans are just so reactionary it's maddening. I mean we aren't as bad a team as our record in the last 12 games or so indicates. We went through a horrible identity crisis, but dammit this is still the same team that can pull off wins against the best teams!

It just really sucks that we couldn't find some way to eek out a win against either Denver or Miami. Fuck those games went right down to the wire and would have done a lot in terms of somewhat re-righting the ship. Yesterday's game was huge for that at least.

Heh. Quite the attitude shift for you fancy. Didn't you say that you had all but stopped watching the Raps a few games ago?

yeah well i caught the fourth quarter yesterday and enjoyed it. I'll say that i'm definitely nowhere near as emotionally invested in this team as i used to be in the past. nowhere near.

....but I still like them too much to stay away outright though.

Yep. I'll still PVR the games even if I can't watch. I'll always give the guys until the beginning of the 4th to show me something.

I have to say though.... the Thunder game was hard to watch... esp. being there live (went with Raptorman & co.). That was the most depressed that I think I've ever been watching the Raps.

Hope to God that never happens again.
