Has JO Played His Last Game As A Raptor?

After all, there is no purpose in keeping O'Neal around in Raptorland any longer.

The team's intent, ever since word leaked a month ago today out of South Beach that O'Neal was being shopped around, was to find a suitable suitor for the veteran.

O'Neal is a good guy who has been placed in a bad situation, a natural power forward who has been asked to play centre.

There is always a chance O'Neal will survive next Thursday's trade deadline, but those chances appear to be slim and none, or roughly the same odds of the Raptors seeing the post-season.

With so much work to be done in remaking these Raptors, O'Neal represents one of the few assets that can actually be parlayed into additional pieces, both in the short term and long term.

Following last night's dizzying 91-89 win over the visiting San Antonio Spurs, the Raptors don't play until next Wednesday.

By then, O'Neal will either be moved or be asked to sit for LeBron James' visit to the ACC with some injury, real or imagined.

That's how business gets conducted when a deal in principle is agreed upon on a night when a player involved in said transaction is scheduled to play.

At least that's the scenario many envision, one that makes a lot of sense on many fronts.

The only questions remain the most obvious: Where and for whom?

Miami has been linked with O'Neal for the longest time, or at least from the day a Heat official conveniently leaked the possibility of a deal.

Any team would welcome a veteran post presence who can play at both ends.

as much as it's the Sun i hope its true.

sounds good. Hopefully something happends and a trade in our favour goes down for once. I doubt that BC will make a bad trade for him concidering we could get more for him trading him in the off season.

Windex 02-12-2009 10:17 AM

I really don't know where JO's going b/c Miami is interested in Amar'e

Ugo Ferst 02-12-2009 10:23 AM

Somehow JO is growing on me, his D is nice, i could go without alot of the shots he takes but nobody is perfect.

takman_777 02-12-2009 10:58 AM

other than calling joey stephen, he has shown a lot of class this past couple of months, if for no other reason than that, he might deserve more time here, god knows this team needs some class!

JO would be great to keep around....if we were paying him like 6 million a year.

logicz 02-12-2009 11:06 AM

J.O is a great guy, he knows the game and plays it well. Id be sad to see him leave, but if it makes our team that much better i wouldn't hesitate to trade him.

Again, when JO plays within the team concept, he's fine and a great piece to have around.

However, his cap number really hurts this team as we're unable to fill voids on it because of it. Sadly, he has to be moved, simply to gain greater flexibility.

No point in reading too much into this, it's pure speculation. Propaganda if you will. I haven't really come to expect much more of the Sun.

$-centz 02-12-2009 11:57 AM

Nothing new... all the sun is saying is... the tradedeadline is approaching... The raptors will PROBABLY do something with JO... we were speculating this for months

Ligeia 02-12-2009 01:51 PM

I think JO will either be playing against the Cavs, or be somewhere else. If a team is wanting to get a trade done before the deadline, now is the best time to pick up a new piece because you've got almost a week and at least a couple practices to get them into the flow of the team. If you're adding a couple bench pieces, it isn't quite as big of a deal, but I assume that JO would be a starter or a 6th man wherever he ends up.

..so it's going to happen after all? if JO is indeed exiting, who else are we packing along with him? Moon or Willie? that Amare thing with Phoenix isn't bad either. Bosh+Amare? That's very enticing.

jeffb 02-12-2009 03:05 PM

IMO he has played his last game in Toronto.

m5racer 02-12-2009 03:06 PM

i dont care who we get if we trade jo, as long as we dont get any bad contracts im all game. Yes his play is growing on me also but at the same time once he gets injured its fucked.

Gurk 02-12-2009 04:03 PM

I like JO but we really need some expirings. Our depth is really bad and so is our wing postions. I think we really need to improve that and the only way we can is by dealing JO, either now or before the FA signing period

Blaze 02-12-2009 04:43 PM

everyone knew he was ganna get dealt the only thing is i like o'neal because hell actually stand up for other team mates and isnt scared to get into a fight (bosh)

The MVP of West Hollywood 02-12-2009 04:50 PM

Well we have one more game before the deadline so technically he can still play and then get traded. I think he'll go before that though.

Gurk 02-12-2009 06:29 PM

BTW when is the deadline???

All times are GMT -4. The time now is 10:20 AM.
