Has Jerryd Bayless played good enough ?

Has Jerryd Bayless played good enough ? Has this in betweener done enough where the Raptors can swing a deal if they draft a pg that knows how to play the 1 position. Look for the Raptors to draft a pg and watch them package Jerryd and Weems and a possible draft pick for a center that can play d and rebound.

If we draft a PG it means Jose is as good as gone. Bayless as a starter has shown that he can play, adds toughness and competes hard defensively. Should he be a starter next season, i guess it depends on who is brought in. Is he a bonified starter yet? I'm not sold just yet, but i know i like him, he has a great attitude and great compete level. Which is what's needed on this team going forward.

ha ha, only you would pose this question as to whether he's played good enough to get rid of, rather than everyone else on the board thinking he's played good enough to get rid of Jose :yeah:

He played better than I expected, but still worse than Jose. On both ends :(

It's easy to say that when you don't quantify it...so let's do that shall we?

These stats pulled from a post on another site....as of April 5th...so they don't include the last few games in which Jerryd has continued to produce big numbers and keep us in games despite having no other health bodies around him.

Okay, so side-by-side - Jerryd vs. Jose as starters - all stats, here we go:

Points Produced / Pace Adjusted 36 minutes: Bayless 20.6, Calderon 14.8 (Bayless, + 5.8)
% of Team's Possessions Borne Individually while on the floor: Bayless 24.5%, Calderon 19.1% (Bayless, + 5.4%)
ORat: Bayless 121.9, Calderon 112.5 (Bayless, + 9.4)
effective FG%: Bayless 53.7%, Calderon 50.5% (Bayless, 3.2%)
True Shooting %: Bayless 59.1%, Calderon 53.4% (Bayless, 5.7%)
Free throws / 100 Field Goal Attempts: Bayless 31.5, Calderon 13.1 (Bayless, + 18.4)
Percentage of teammates' field goals assisted: Bayless 36.0%, Calderon 42.8% (Calderon, + 6.8%)
Turnovers as percentage of Individual Possessions: Bayless 15.2%, Calderon 19.0% (Bayless, + 3.8%)
Percentage of Total Available Rebounds Grabbed: Bayless 7.0%, Calderon, 5.9% (Bayless, + 1.1%)
Stop%: Bayless 47.1%, Calderon 40.3% (Bayless, + 6.8%)
Points allowed per 100 possessions faced: Bayless 114.8, Calderon 116.1 (Bayless, + 1.3)
Net Points / Pace Adjusted 36 minutes: Bayless +3.8, Calderon -1.8 (Bayless, + 5.6)

In other words, as a starter Jerryd Bayless has done absolutely everything better than Calderon and in some cases hugely better. The only thing Jose has done better is he assists on more of his teammates' field goals than Jerryd does (but surprisingly turns it over more than Jerryd). That has not translated into team success, as our offensive rating is 105.6 in the games in which Jose starts and 110.2 when Jerryd starts.

Worse than Caldy on the defensive end? I wouldn't go that far man. Offensively I can see your point, almost a polar opposite of Caldy; he shoots more over Caldy's passing and turns it over much more but again that comes with experience.
Plus this is the first time he's seen consistent minutes in his NBA career, give the guy a chance.

He has the skills to be good starting PG, I think he just needs some more time that's all.

Jerryd cannot be our starting PG for next season or we are screwed. He is ok of the bench, but not a starter. He just cannot run the offense that well. He does have grit in him and can score, but his qualities are more of role player type. And to be honest even if he is gritty, I dont think he is really that good of a defender.

If we cannot get Irving, I would just keep Jose&JB and let Jose help the youngsters develop their offensive game. Its not ideal situation, but I dont see us being any good next year anyway. We need improvment in so many areas that I could well live with this PG situation for a year.

I could see Jerryd being good off the bench and being a combo guard as well, or having a pick that plays some off-guard.

Same here. I like the spark that he brings. It'd be a shame to lose him (unless we're going to get back something REALLY good).

i'm not completly sold yet on bayless.
but it seems to me this team is more attractive to watch without jose and bargs, and play harder on D an O.
so if we don't land a pg in the draft i would want to keep bayless and give him a season as a starter to prove himself.
