Unless there is a guaranteed Kevin Love, Lebron James, or a Kevin Durant in this draft pool I really wouldn't want to trade away one of 2 of the most reliable sources of scoring this team has.

Yes

No

Yes

But really, there are people who wouldn't give up DeMar and two picks for a top 5 pick? That means you're guaranteed one of Parker, Wiggins, Randle, Embiid, or Exum. I get that Demar is a reliable scorer and likes Toronto, but business is business, and when you get a player who can be the face of your franchise for 10 years, in exchange for a borderline all star and some picks that'll likely end up in the 20s, you take it and run.

But none of that matters because no sane GM will trade a top 5 pick for a package with Demar as the best asset.

One of these things doesn't belong.

No the Raps wouldn't be guaranteed 1 of those 5. Exum is the only one who's said he'd enter the draft so far. Andrew Wiggins has hinted already that he'll play only one season in the NCAA but outside of that,Embiid,Parker and Randle could easily return for their Sophomore season.

Jim Boehim is the coach of the #1 and undefeated Syracuse right now(also won a Championship and Gold Medal) and he's even stated there isn't any LeBron or Duncan in this supposed deep draft and that none of the Freshman are worth tanking for(which equally means none are worth trading 2 firsts and an All Star for). I take his word for it more than any writer or fan trying to hype up the young incoming talent as the current ones have peaked or are on the verge of going out.

Most teams only trade their all-stars when they are about to tank, or when the star demands out of the city. Neither of these cases are happening. Why trade away our all-star to pick up a player who will take a few season to get to where Demar is at now. Seems like we just wasted that last few years on developing Demar if that's the case, and who knows, this new guy we draft may want to walk the first opportunity he gets.
Thanks. Saved me the trouble.

I like that you've already bestowed superstar status on each of those guys without any of them having played an NBA game. It's cute.

The assumption being made is that the trade is made on draft night (no other way to have a guaranteed top 5 pick) and all those guys have declared, so yes it would be guaranteed. Even so, its extremely unlikely any of those guys turn down a guaranteed top 5 pick.

And numerous other people with similar qualifications as Boehim have said otherwise. Ill take their word for it over a writer trying to stir up controversy, a coach trying to help his own players get drafted higher, and fans trying to convince themselves that the team didn't make a mistake by not going for a top pick.

You should start a cult. But don't call yourself Kool-Aid. It would probably give you away.

Different strokes for different folks. I like the draft Kool-Aid, a bunch here like Demar flavoured Kool-Aid.

Yeah, that's a false equivocation. That's why i brought up all the other players. It's not at all about DeMar. It's about being so eager to get rid of an established impactful player for the sake of betting on the surefire development of one of five overhyped kids.

There is a place for the draft. In no way does it replace player development within a winning culture. If we were talking about being able to get a specific player that is a known commodity then you're talking about something, but that just isn't the case with a top five pick here.

Demar is a fringe all-star and those picks are almost definite 20+. If you can find a GM stupid enough to take that you do the trade quickly before they get themselves fired.

But how are you so certain they're overhyped? For all the accusations I'm getting of using my crystal ball to guarantee they're all superstars (even though I haven't done that), you're doing the same thing by saying they won't.

The picks have a good chance to be in the 20s, so I don't value them highly, but a top 5 pick is more valuable than Demar. It is easily. If you disagree on that there's no reason to go on because we're not on different pages, but different books altogether. No GM, including Masai, would trade a top 5 pick for Demar. It's as simple as that. The value is so much higher that even if you prefer Demar to the pick for some reason, you have to take it based solely off of the principle of buying low and selling high, and try to flip it for a player better than Demar.
