But surely no intent to spend over the MLE on a backup PG. Concerns about him making 6M+ on an offer are misplaced if they are predicated on the assumption he is being signed as a backup.

9.5M with a player option and 9.5M with a team option are two very different things. I too would like the team option, but usually unless you are overpaying annually, you're not getting a team option put in. I think it would be better to have no options put in, and have Lowry take a slightly lower value-per-year contract.

Agreed. Although once KL is signed what other starting PG's are available? I still say he will get an offer to start somewhere for 6-7mil/yr.

I still say money shouldn't be the central bargaining tool when courting vasquez. The length of his contract might be more important to him IMO. I remember in his okc of the east rant, he mentioned how thrilled he was living in Toronto to see his kids excited going to school, his girlfriend pursuing her studies etc. Not to mention he comes off as a very loyal dude.

Give him that 4-5 mill for 5 years and i think he wouldn't hesitate. Personally, I would offer given his swagger and confidence in the playoffs.

That being said we don't know what he is thinking ATM even though he expresses explicit interest and spills out his passion for the team in the press.
He is guaranteed a specific role on a winning team that I believe he is very comfortable with as opposed to a big unknown on other teams. Much of this also should strike a cord with lowry as well

Since the team can guarantee him a defined role as the backup PG and he has been talking very definitively about his love for this city, it would be an absolute shock to me if he didn't re-sign. The only way he doesn't is if the contract is a ridiculous slap in the face, which I don't see happening.

To me this is as good of a situation as he will find. The team is on the rise and looks like it can make the playoffs for many years with the possibility of getting much better. As the main backup PG, he is guaranteed a lot of minutes because he will get at least all the minutes when the starting PG rests. Also, but hopefully it doesn't happen, he may fall into a starting PG role if Lowry doesn't re-sign and no better PG is signed. To me there is a lot of playing potential for him here.

When it comes to signing Vasquez and Lowry, at this point, I'd trust Vasquez more with my dollars. We can only hope Lowry performs in the future as he did this year because I remember him huffing and puffing up the court last year, that's all we need is him to fall back, get fat and take a nap on that big fat contract.

Moving Novak for an expiring would be a good move, since he expires a year later, but you'd need to find a team that would actually want him, since I'd hate to see assets/picks moved out just to save 3M in cap space.
thanks for clearing that up, I think my overall point made it through my mess of a post tho.

Give GV as much as it takes to keep him, if you gotta sign d-leagers to fill out the bench because of it. Whatever, pay the guys who are gonna play!

Fat Lowry is still way better than Vasquez ever will be.

and Calderone ... I just don't see how next years Vasquez is worth anywhere close to this years Lowry money, in any role on any team.

He re-ups for 10-12mil over 3yrs.

He is Goran Dragic like, but so is Nando DeColo ... in a sense

I fear that lowry will go back to getting injured all the time and sit out much of the season.

I mean I don't fully trust that the aches and pains he ignored this season wont seem more urgent to him once he has a big ole gauranteed contract.

But lets be the ones to give him that contractand MU remember to cross your fingers

Lakers need a new PG? they have Marshall although is basically a less flashy version of Rubio and just as crap at scoring I don't really see the Lakers going for another PG really.
