Who's writing him off? I know what he can do as a starter, and what he did on both teams he played for. I'm not like you watching him for the first time or anything.

I followed him during his years in NO.

Well in a way we'll all be watching him for the first time since he's with a new team and in a new system. He wouldn't be the first player benefitting from a change of scenery. He might surprise us (but then again, he might not...). Just wait.

btw, let's not forget how he played his way out of Sactown in a span of 2 months after being anointed their "PG of the future". Getting outplayed by Isaiah Thomas off the bench every game forcing a time-split.

Calderon would not have been so bad as a backup only when not exposed by starters. Keep this kid coming off the bench, and we will all not hate him.

How many Americans do the Spurs have? 4 of 15. Its a ridiculous statement. Its even more ridiculous when you consider he's from Venezuela. Venezuela is not in Europe last i checked.

So that makes him a lesser player than Thomas, still not bad.

I never heard talks of Greivis being their PG of the future, I think it already was apparent last year that Thomas would be filling that role soon enough, he had some spectacular play last year.

Perhaps they wanted a passfirst PG in the starting lineup and a scoring PG off the bench like they did in their best years with Jason Williams and Bobby Jackson. Now it's clear that Thomas is too good to keep on the bench, but he is not a passfirst PG (5 apg) and it'll be hard to keep Cousins, Williams, Gay, Thornton and Mclemore all happy.

I don't think we need a scoring PG a la Thomas anyways, a distributor like Vasquez will benefit us more right now. He might even help increase the value of our assets.

Jose also got 5apg off the bench in 07 when he backed up TJ - he must've been a score first type of PG :P Getting 5 apg off the bench is nothing short of remarkable and IT, even though more of a scorefirst guard, should be able to improve his apg as a starter with 30+mpg and playing with a much better cast in the starting 5.

Jose didn't add 18 ppg to those 5 apg. That indeed makes Thomas a scorefirst PG. Honestly I don't see Thomas improving on those numbers. When Gay, Williams and Mclemore come into their own Thomas won't be counted on to do as much as he is now. It doesn't help that his (new) teammates aren't generous in passing the ball neither.

Quite an ugly situation to be in. If I was Thomas I'd leave Sactown the first chance I get. Preferably to T.O.

So not only is he passing quite well in those backup mins but he also manages to score a ton as well- that just means he's a quality PG-whether u deem him scorefirst or whatever despite showing that he's quite the distributor when he plays in those mins, + quite the scorer. He can adjust. Not to mention the others will also have to adjust to scoring less. Only so much of the ball around. + you forgot DMC.

Lol that aint happening.

You know what would be cool though?
Sign and trade Vasquez back to SAC for Thomas.

Not really no. It's just that he's a FA next year and seems to be pretty good. We have to start looking for a young new PG and Thomas would be ready to step in from day 1. I haven't actually seen him play since the Kings are a horrible team in every way.

But I prefer passfirst PG's over scoring PG's any time of the day. If Vasquez wasn't as bad at playing defense like everyone says he is I'd give him the keys to the franchise today.
