Calderon keeps coming up just because he was here. There's got to be a better comparison.

just an aside: If he is able to actually grasp Casey's defensive system, since MU says he has a high b-ball IQ, his deficiencies on defense might not be as pronounced, especially since he has size.

Well based on what I'm reading, he's a pick and roll, pass first PG. Sounds like Jose.

And I was merely reiterating what had been posted before.

Strengths: A combo guard with good scoring instincts and advanced passing ability … Has a natural feel for the game and is able to see plays well before they materialize, allowing him to deliver passes that seem impossible to make ... At 6'6 he has great size for a guard (as it allows him to see over top of defenders, but it also makes him a difficult matchup) … He has good potential to play in a pick and roll system, because he is good at keeping his dribble alive and drawing the rotation … Has crafty moves off the dribble, and uses his long strides to get past defenders ... Can use either hand to finish at the basket ... Split time between both guard positions, and was able to bring a nice mix of attributes to both spots … Showed the ability to operate without the ball and come off screens … Has become a better shooter from the outside, stretching his range and improving his percentages ... Solid contributor on the glass as well as in the steals department ... Plays with a lot of passion and confidence, he is not afraid of throwing difficult passes or taking big shots … Has proven that he can perform in key moments against top level collegiate competition … Continued to improve various facets of his game throughout his career …

Weaknesses: Lacks the first step to explode by defenders ... Has a hard time turning the corner, and usually has defenders riding his hip ... He is not an aggressive player and has trouble against defenders who get into his body … Not a great finisher inside, he doesn’t have great strength or body control to complete plays through contact … Can be very erratic with the ball and with his passing (taking way too many risks)... Shoots a slight set shot, which takes longer to release and allows the defense to recover ... Not a great shooter off the dribble, does not have great rhythm and elevation, which is the cause of inconsistent results from midrange ... Does not project well as a defender at the next level, lacks the lateral quickness and does not put forward much of an effort on that end ... Will have a hard time containing either guard position off the dribble … Is an arrogant player, which is sometimes a positive, but he needs to learn to control his emotions and not cross the line …

IMO as long as Lowry is still here we are going to see them both on the floor 10-15min per game.

why? from what I hear he's a good backup. leaves too much to be desired to be a starter. backups play from 15-20 mins, while starters 30-40, depending on the night

Vasquez would be a nice backup PG if he accepted the role. He's not a starting caliber player because he's one of the worst defensive PGs in the NBA, and he's not a good enough scorer to play for long stretches without hurting his team(because he's not a good enough spot up shooter when he isn't handling the ball, and he's not a good enough ball handler to create enough opportunities to score to be a high usage player).

His ideal role is to play 18-20 mpg, and if he's playing well, then 25 mpg. He'll be a nice fit with JV, getting him looks in the post and screen roll.

His stats from last year were inflated though. NOH is a very pick and roll heavy offence, and he got a lot of Calderon assists so to speak, plus he was their primary ball handler, which is one of the many reasons they sucked.

Hi, I'm a newbie here, decided to register because the Gay trade actually made me think there's hope in the future for this team. And there is... as long as the Raptors decide to tank this season.

As for Vasquez... I say he should be a starting PG after Lowry is hopefully traded away, for a 1st round pick next year possibly. He would be just the player this team needs, a pass-first PG who would feed DD, JV and whichever big prospect the Raptors might land in the next draft. With great scorers on your team you don't need a scoring PG as well, Vasquez plays smart, gets the ball to the right place in the right time and is cheap. IMO, can't get any better than that...

You're welcome with open arms.

I agree. His main purpose will be to feed the team and feed them even more once KL is dealt. As long as he's not envisioned as the long term PG then it's all good.

If his role will be to distribute the ball and shoot only if open , he can end up with 8 assists and 8 points per game in a pretty efficient way. If Casey will give him a free path to the basket with no clear role on this team, he can end up with quite an ugly statistics like 12(on 4/12)/4assists+4 turnovers.
