Default Great quote.....

A while back we had a very spirited debate on here, basically it was about Bosh calling out the Fans for not helping the raps win games.

I was angry. No player in my estimation should EVER deflect responsibility away from himself, and no entity deserves less insult than the fans themselves.

We got into a debate about how NHL players NEVER blame the fans, they apologize to fans for thier poor efforts. I called NBA player soft. I called them weak.

Well I read a comment from a raptor player, you can guess who since it is pretty damn obvious once you think about it.

I just wanna thank this guy for raising my hopes up a little that we might one day have a team of NBAers here that act like men, and show us the respect we deserve as fans.

Thanks Man.

"Right now, we're going through a recession, so people are trying to do whatever it takes to be in a positive way. ... A lot of times when they come to the game, they at least want to see hard work.

"No matter if you win or lose, they want to see somebody going real hard because they're working hard to earn a living just so they can come to our games."

If they don't win this season, I really could care less about them playing as if they were hockey pucks.

I like Reggie's impact on the overall culture though. If he can make the fans less stupid then that would be great too.

Reggie?

I liked Reggie's quote about never disrespecting the honour of the basketball court. Meaning, go hard during games, practices, shoot-arounds, anytime you're on the floor.

It's gotta be Reggie!

If not, I don't care......I'm just glad someone on the court is playing for someone other than just themselves! (this is not a jab at any other players)

Yes, I remember reading the quote about the recession from Reggie and was pleased to finally hear an NBA player say something like this

The ones who boo a missed freethrow in a close game are pretty dumb. Just to throw one of many examples out there. I suspect that if the team's culture does truly become the stuff of a top tier team, then the fans will look at the big picture a bit better, and actually try to have a good impact themselves whether the team is up or down at any given moment.

Reggie will undoubtedly be a fan favorite. What I'm saying is that if fan faves is all that we have to get excited about this time around, then I'll be moving along. Especially if the fans single out other guys to scapegoat at the same time. I'm looking for a team to be interested in, not a group embroiled in a popularity contest.

So move along because i would prefer my peers as fans to be intelligent.

Nobody is talking about how happy we are to hear Evans say this shit, just ANY of them saying it.

Had Bosh said that last year...... well, things would have been different.

Yeah there would have been so much love for a 30 win team had Bosh simply said that he was going to work hard and do his best. I'm pretty sure he has said that on many occasions. And he has shown it on the court. Remember how he dove for a loose ball in pre-season last year? I thought those actions spoke louder than any sentiments thrown out there in an interview. And the fans generally disliked him doing it.

The biggest problem last season was not what guys did or did not say. It was Jose's admitted complete inability to play defense, and nobody being around to back him up properly. They had a short rotation last season that required a good degree of hard work from everyone in it, and two of the key components had bad wheels and couldn't handle the hard work. How does any amount of trying to sweet talk their way out of that predicament make anyone happier?

Here's the quote that gets my juices flowing.

Quote:
"I didn't like the fact that I thought we fatigued a bit, whether it was the length of the scrimmage or the length of the number of two-a-days and all of that piling up," Triano said Sunday after the team's first practice in the Air Canada Centre. They had spent five days in Ottawa, culminating with a scrimmage on Saturday.

"I didn't like the fact that our point guards went ahead of the play. I didn't like the fact that our bigs stopped running and our wings didn't get down to the baseline. We started taking shortcuts."
http://www.canada.com/sports/Triano+raps+Raps+fitness/2067388/story.html

Last season they needed to be in tip top shape and simply were not going in, for reasons I've already recounted. Seeing Triano place a big emphasis on it, and showing his disapproval thus far, instead of giving some accounts of how hard everyone is working, is a great lesson for myself as a fan. Triano has done a nice job at pulling back the curtain quite a bit and not just feeding us cliches. Again - if the team grows as a result of some of his awareness, and some of the leadership shown by guys like Evans and Jack, then we're all going to be much smarter as fans.

I've heard him say this on Raps TV yesterday and was applauding as well.

Generally speaking, all the people in the organization, from BC on down to the players, are saying the right things. Let's see what transpires on the floor...
