Grantland: Players who could be dealt this season

Quote:

The Toronto Raptors, All of Them

Perhaps the league's biggest disappointment, the 4-18 Raptors have bigger deals to consider than any involving their December 15 crew; the whole NBA knows the Andrea Bargnani/Jose Calderon package is an almost perfect salary fit for Gasol, though the Lakers' front office has presumably watched Bargnani shoot bricks and play some of the worst help defense in the league.

Saturday's deadline frees up (among other Dinos) John Lucas III, a shoot-first backup point guard who can barely get minutes in Toronto, and Landry Fields, a wildly overpaid wing who once again shot miserably this season before undergoing elbow surgery. The handcuffs also come off Alan Anderson and Aaron Gray, but none of these guys moves the needle much. The Raptors, as of now, would be capped out this summer and could have only limited flexibility — something like $8 million to $10 million in space — in the summer of 2014 if Bargnani is still around, so they have some incentive to cut salary.
Jeremy Lin, Ryan Anderson, Eric Gordon, and the NBA's newly eligible trade candidates - Grantland

DD, DAVIS, VAL and Amir.. the rest I don't care for

It's strange to see Bargnani's face at the top of the rumors section on Hoopshype.
It says a lot about how far we've come (or how low we've sunk).

Val and Ross... or ValasoRoss. The new raptors have a prehistoric future!

keep our latest first round picks (derozan, davis, jv, ross), i think they really have BIG talent; but speaking of the rest, there should nobody be save, this is sports, man, unless you bring your best possible everytime needed, YOU SHOULD BE OUT :cookie:

the rookies and younger guys mentioned above are obviously fighting their heart out of their body (look at jv at the offensive boards alone against four thirty times a game), but don't have enough developed basketball tools, to have a real chance winning those fights, THEY DESERVE TO BE HERE!!

No one should be safe. If it makes the team better then do it. There is always mediocre or average talent that can fill out a roster.

It's going to take moving some good players to clear out the deadwood. They need to blow it up real good, and starting with the firing of the GM would be the best idea.

Washington - Calderon and Davis
Toronto - Ariza, Vesely and Booker

Both teams need a change and this could help.

Metallikid 12-11-2012 08:38 PM

I would love it if the only players returning next year were JV, Davis and DeMar. Ross is going to be redundant. Fuck it, even shipping DeMar wouldn't bother me if we could hang on to Ross.

Any change is good for this team, it couldn't possibly get any worse.

I would consider it, but i'd probably rather not. He has talent and is young but he's a risk (headcase). Depends what else is out there. His contract is at least reasonable.

Yup, and at 2yrs/12mil remaining after this season it's not that big a risk imo. Especially if he was part of a bigger deal that included one of their bigs (gortat?).
