Grange's First Impressions of O'Bryant

According to Grange the kid isn't doing himself any favours so far. :cwm34:

He kind half-assed some jumpers, like you would if you were kind of tired and goofing around on your own. I thought that was odd because given all he's got between him and some playing time is Jake Voskuhl, I'd think he'd be quick to get out there and get a light sweat on, or at least pretend he had a purpose. Not that at all. Some relaxed shooting. Then, when the layups started, some kind of goofy finger-roll. What happens next though, is the killer: he takes off for a wicked windmill; and then throws down some other pretty rare dunks.

6. And right away you get a sense for why he's still trying to find his niche in the NBA: he's obviously got some pretty significant athletic talent; and he can shoot – they may have been lazy shots, but they were going in – but he just radiates “Not only do I not work that hard, I don't have a clue how to work that hard.” This could be an incredible opportunity for O'Bryant and to that end every minute the floor – in games or not – should be devoted to showing he's ready to earn it.

This kid is another Loren Woods...

'trane 02-26-2009 07:37 PM

in mindset you may be right ivan, but he has much better tools than woods.

I can't stand players that have so much talent but are too lazy to put it all together.

Nelson shut the door on recalling Patrick O'Bryant this season from the D-League, where the rookie center is averaging 6.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 23.4 minutes a night. He has fouled out of two of his seven games.

"I told him that if he goes down to the D-League and isn't a dominant player, there should be red flags all over the place and he should be the first to notice," Nelson said. "And he's not only not dominating, he's not even playing very well. So he's a long-term project."
now he's our longer term project

If he's really that lazy he'll be out of the league in no time. Some guys have all the physical gifts in the world but not the mental capacity to do anything with them.
Maybe he'll be happy with the few mil he's made by keeping the bench from tipping and then disappear. Only to show up on the police report when the money runs out. We've seen it before.
If the talent is there let's hope the kid discovers a work ethic and a desire to create a legacy in pro ball.
I won't be holding my breath.

He doesn't seem lazy as much as just a little slow upstairs to me. Talent is once again shown to be very over-rated.

N64 02-26-2009 10:02 PM

he seems so laid back on the bench during games too...like he's daydreaming about being a star like LBJ and he just doesn't give a fck :sigh:

Sounds a little like Moon

He can make lazy shots and dunk like crazy in the warm-up. Let's sign him a max deal! :)

fancylad 02-27-2009 06:26 AM

that's too bad about Obryant.

I had minimal hopes for the guy being a pretty high draft pick from not that long ago. Minimal that it was, there was still some hope.

As mentioned dude sounds like he's pretty dim. ah well.

Moon always wants to play, O'Bryant looks like he wants to be asked to play.

2-3 minutes a week isn't much to talk about. D-League, meet PATRICK O'BRYANT!
