There are only two teams who are at that much of a deficit at any position: The Washingto Wizards, who are down 11.2 at point guard and the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are down 9.0 at centre. Combined they are 2-23 and have fired two coaches. Oh, one other team is worse off, sorry. That's San Antonio, who are down 12.4 at small forward, thanks to injuries, and they're a potential Finals team struggling to stay in the playoff race out west.

Which brings me to: how can you fix that? I spent a little time the last week or so pecking away at the idea of Jerry Stackhouse, if only because he was available and because the things he brings to the table or used to bring are almost exactly what the Raptors need, and more importantly what they could conceivably get with the assets they have. Tough? Stack is tough, like, one of the very toughest guys in the league. Check out the foul he laid on Shaq during the NBA Finals in 2006, and name me one other player who would do that. Can get to the rim? Yes. Affordable and short-term? Yes. He's owed $7-million or so this year and next, but only $2-million of next year's deal is guaranteed. Character? Stack has a bit of a rep for being tough to handle, but as one opposing GM told me, his history is when he's competing with perimeter guys for shots and minutes he can be cranky. Working with Bosh and O'Neal wouldn't be so much of an issue.

So Stack, really? Probably not. Stack's numbers have steadily declined of late, but the main issue is Gerald Green, as in: Why on earth, if Stack still has game, would Rick Carlisle who is trying to make the playoffs etc. etc. be playing Gerald Green ahead of Stack? It's not because Stack is hurt. Sources say his heel problem is about as bad as Al Harrington's back was. That he's playing behind guys like Green and Antoine Wright throws up a huge red flag, maybe too big and too red for any serious discussions to take place.

Sure ... but don't we have to pay for this guy? Is MLSE willing to go into luxury tax to fix this problem? That's the question ....

After watching him hit 3 after 3 the other game and make huge plays down the stretch (rebounds, steals etc) can you really say that?

I think that this is a classic case of "grass in greener" syndrome.

I think Ap is great but we need someone better than him. I believe he can be a really good 6th man

off the bench is would be amazing, we need someone that can start and bring a little more to the table. AP is great, but is aging and should be comming off the bench.

That's all well and good but WHERE are we going to find this elusive "better SG" who can... create off the dribble, defend, pass AND shoot the rock?

Tell me who's out there right now that would be an upgrade AND that we could get without trading Bosh/Bargs/Jose.

The only way that I can see this coming about is if we trade Bargs, unless we get lucky and find someone from europe.

AP is great on those nights he hits 3s like crazy!!! Nice of you to leave out the part where the guy he is supposedly guarding has 30-40.

I would but he would be more of a shooting Pg. He doesn't have the size. He is basically Hassan except he takes too many shots

there is NOBODY available that is better than AP. The only way you can upgrade that position (in season) is to trade. Nobody is dumb enough to trade a player better than AP for AP, so you would have to trade somebody of equal value on this roster, playing on a different position. Unfortunately we don't have anybody like that.

I agree, our 2 spot is our biggest issue! Andrea is holding his own at the 3 right now. The SG position is our biggest weakness right now. Well, that and our backup PG!

Ap is continually outmatched, and it's a testament to his work ethic and skill that he can hit those incredibly hard fadeaway jumpers time and time again, and that he can get steals against superior athletes.

But these big plays are often the only plays, and he goes long stretches where he is a complete non-factor. He can't get himself easy shots and he can't take players out of their comfort zone on the defensive end.

If he wants to have a long career in this league, he'll learn to adapt his game to coming off the bench. Because that's what he would be on a elite team, a bench guy. A 7th, 8th man.

We need a no name guy, who doesn't care one bit if every star wing in this league hates his guts, and can penetrate to the rim, quickly.

Everyone rags on Parker, but shit, this is the same guy that's had to not only guard the other team's best player on most nights, but he's also counted on to score? For what he gets paid, AP is a godsend.

I'm afraid Raptors fans that what you see on the court is what you're gonna see all season long. If there is any tinkering whatsoever, it'll be very minor.
