Default Grange: Raptors Looking Hard at Buying a Second Pick

And Parker? He may have been overmatched as a starting guard at 34, but he's a serviceable asset and the Raptors risk getting nothing from him if decides big money in Europe — nearly double what he could expect to make in the NBA — would be worth moving his family overseas one more time.

No wonder the Raptors, according to team sources, are actually looking hard at buying a second pick even if this year's draft is more about role players than star power.

The Raptors need players, of any stripe, and, hopefully, ones that can step in and play 10 or 15 minutes a game on the perimeter right out of training camp.

"This year, there will be picks for sale," one league insider said.

"With the economy and the salary cap shrinking, there will be teams looking to get rid of a pick rather than have to carry another guaranteed contract."

So with the draft order firmed up after last night, the Raptors gain clarity on where they will be picking and just maybe on where they'll be buying, if it comes to that.

I'd be ecstatic if we could scoop up Danny Green or Jeff Pendergraph in the second round. Both are long, athletic guys that stayed in college for 3-4 years and could definitely come in and contribute right away.

I'm willing to bet anything that the second pick will be in the efforts to get Omri Casspi, a 6'8" small forward who's playing right now with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Colangelo said he wanted the team to get tougher. I'm thinking a guy like Hansbrough would be a better option late in the draft.

I would love Blair. HE is a massive body that isn't afraid to throw his weight around but the sad part is that Mock Drafts have him going in the lottery

How high of a pick do you think we could buy? Maybe in the lottery? Maybe?

I read somewhere a long time ago that Humphries wasn't likely to survive the summer as a Raptor.

Love to get Blair.

Actually have a PF who throws his weight around instead of being thrown.

what pisses me off is they decide to go hard for a second pick in a weak draft and in a strong one they always trade away picks

yep. his numbers are almost exactly the same as tractor traylor's were in college (it's eerie), but i still think he's worth a shot. we need a guy with a wide ass who knows how to throw it around.

this is worth seeing though...

traylor (last year at michigan) 16.2 pts 10 rbs 2.6 assists 1.6 blocks 58% fg - listed at 6'8 289lbs.

blair (last year at pitt) 15.7 pts 12.3 rbs 1.1 assists 1 block 59.3% fg - listed at 6'7" 265lbs.

Wasnt Traylor older though?

And Maybe its just me but Blair certainly looks a bit more fit than the Trailer

traylor was drafted at age 21 (born feb 1977, drafted 1998). blair is is 20 (born april 1989).

blair topped 300 lbs this year, but has reportedly shed a lot of weight recently. he is definitely more agile than traylor, and i expect him to have a good career. i just can't help but look at how eerily similar the stats are.

Hansbrough is exactly what the Raptors are desperate for. He's gritty and tough and he's a winner. He'll fill whatever role he's asked to and he'll play hard as hell.
I really hope BC can buy a mid to late first rounder and nab him.
