NBA free agents: Sources: Shawn Marion, Toronto Raptors deal is not imminent - ESPN
The Toronto Raptors, after repeatedly being linked to Portland-bound Hedo Turkoglu, focused their free-agent efforts on re-signing forward Shawn Marion. However, signals are mixed regarding how close the sides are to a new deal. The Toronto Globe and Mail reported Friday that the Raptors have a four-year deal on the table worth more than $8 million per year, but sources close to the situation told ESPN.com later Friday that a verbal agreement is not imminent. Sources told ESPN.com that the Raptors are offering a four-year deal in the $36 million range, but Marion is said to be seeking a five-year dial in the $50 million range, similar to what Turkoglu is likely to receive from the Trail Blazers. There is growing belief around the league that the Raptors and Marion will ultimately reach an agreement given the long history between Raptors president Bryan Colangelo and Marion -- Colangelo drafted Marion in Phoenix in 1999 -- and the limited number of options for both sides. One source close to the process cautioned to ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that closing the gap "could take a while." With or without Marion, Toronto is interested free-agent forwards from Linas Kleiza and Raptors alumnus Carlos Delfino and has not abandoned hope of finding a way to retain Colangelo-favorite Anthony Parker. Kleiza and Parker are also drawing interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, who missed out on initial targets Ron Artest and Trevor Ariza. Marion averaged 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in 27 games with the Raptors last season after Toronto sent Jermaine O'Neal and Jamario Moon to Miami in a midseason deal for Marion and Marcus Banks. The Raptors finished a disappointing season strong by having Marion and Andrea Bargnani flanking Chris Bosh in stead of playing a traditional center. Information from ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard and ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan and Henry Abbott was used in this report. |

It's all Marion's fault. Had he signed the 34M/4-year deal we'd be really happy and he'd get his cash. But no, he chose robbing us and now he's homeless and looking for a MLE

blazers have no need for marion, they already have outlaw. The reason they wanted hedu is because he can create shots, which marion can't. The other teams with cap space are memphis. sacramento and okc, and the rumours are that they won't be spending their money this summer.
so yes - marion is in a very tight spot right now - maybe we can take advantage after all. |

they (Marion and his agent) shouldn't have fucked around like that.. i'd like to see him get an offer higher than 8mil/yr. i'd like to see him how he stacks up against Hedo. on the other hand, i'm not saying Hedo in a Raps uni is a very bad decision. there aren't many 6'10ers in the league who can handle the ball and can make jumpers. i just think 10mil/yr is overkill on our payroll. there's lots of guys in the league who can guard this guy. |

Actually if we could get Marion to sign for the MLE that would just put the icing on the cake!
Imagin: Jose Turk Marion Bosh Bargs That would be a hell of a starting 5...I really looks like no one wants Marion right now...I think his really bad 3pt shooting % has scared teams away & the fact that he didn't play well with Dwade. |

His rebounding fills in nicely for Bargs being on the perimiter a lot. He doesn't need set plays. He defends well. |

maybe marion will realize with all these signings from every team and now including the Raptors that he isn't really a hot commodity anymore in the league
maybe he'll realize his worth in terms of contract level and he'll sign here for cheap because we really need the defense and rebounding, which we are not getting out of turkoglu and have none in any of the other players but evans who isn't a big time player with marion and turk we can run a big size offense like the magic did and then sit 1 of them and put demar in and run a more typical offense |
