Grange: Raps Should of Gone After Pietrus Instead of Kapono

Should of, could of, would of .... just one of Colangelo's most significant mistakes here in Toronto. ;)

He's like a longer, quicker Joey Graham, presumably with a bit more focus, but who knows. The Magic are certainly high on him and got him for less than $24-million. He'll be a starter on a team that is taking serious aim at the NBA Finals in part because he's their biggest and most athletic and physical perimeter player. He was signed specifically to give Orlando someone to throw at Wade and Pierce and LeBron. Kapono is a bit player with some serious athletic short-comings on a team that is 11 games under .500. I'm not privy to all the details - maybe he wanted more money, maybe he didn't want to come to Toronto, whatever. But it seems like one the Raptors might want to have back.

LOL no effin duh, but wasn't Pietrus a FA last year and not 2 years ago???

So if Pietrus was a major disappointment in Orlando this year, would Grange be saying this? Methinks not. Thanks for the nugget of information there, Michael. That's some bang-up journalism. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Pietrus has a lot more upside than Kapono, in my opinion. He has the athleticism and skill to make his own shot, while also being a part of a complete team offensive game.

I think Colangelo signed Kapono because he believed that was the type of player that would work. I think he knew exactly the skill-set JK brought to the Raptors, and he over-paid for a player who is very one-dimensional, thinking that his skills would be useful. Unfortunately, the team needs athleticism, skill, and defense a lot more than it needs another shooter.

If Kapono were in a place like Orlando where he got wide-open looks all day (or like in Miami, where he got wide-open looks all day), it might actually work. Sadly, that's not TO....

Sad thing is Pietrus hits more 3s a game than Kapono.

Kapono didn't take very many shots in Miami either, although he fired more 3's than here. I don't think it has anything to do with being wide-open. He just doesn't shoot a whole lot. And truthfully he plays the right way, but he needs to be on a much more balanced team.

pietrus is pretty much the same player delfino was, except he shoots free throws like dwight howard (quality not quantity).

Just imagine if Kapono was on the Magic. He would be hitting every three. He would prolly lead the league in all the point related categories and Miller would've said that he is a really good shooter
