Default Grange: It's Mostly On Bargs himself

From Granges Blog From Deep - LINK

Quote:
Andrea Bargnani going hard to the offensive glass. I think he had three of them. He completed at least a couple of baskets on put-backs. He posted up Maurice Evans the instant he saw the mismatch. He played with some power and purpose. I happened to be sitting beside Jack Armstrong during the broadcast and he said something to the effect of: “It’s not that he can’t do it. It’s that he doesn’t do it enough.”

Couldn’t agree more. Obviously when a good portion of your offence calls for you centre to be lifted – i.e. play above the three-point line – the opportunities to play that kind of basketball are going to be limited to an extent. But when you see him make plays like that it makes you wonder. Doing that kind of stuff on occasion is kind of an indictment, I think, of him, in the sense that it suggests that he’s simply indifferent to making the kind of plays that NBA centres have to make – at least in-between three-pointers – and an indictment of the Raptors approach, which allows him to define himself by his jump shot so much. That was perhaps the major disappointment for me when Bosh was hurt. You wonder sometimes if it’s deferring to Bosh that hurts Bargnani. Watching him play like he did last night proves that it doesn’t; it’s just him.

more of something we already know...it seems like the only person that doesn't know about this is Bargs himself

exactly. the guy is talented but he just doesnt want to bang in the paint or be physical.

I mean come on hes 7'0 and 250 lbs. when a smaller guy is on you, you have to enforce your will on him, it seems as if andrea doesnt believe he can do it.

i dont want to make it sound so easy but, if he bodies the smaller defender deep down low, calls for the ball and makes a quick 1 dribble move he should have easy buckets ALL the time, whether it be a dunk, a hook shot or a fade away.

it just pains me to see a 7 footer having to fight to score on the smaller man in the post. when he does post up and score he a lot of times will take 3+ dribbles and makes it look so hard when in reality the defender should have no chance against him.

AND GRAB MORE THAN 6 BOARDS GODDAMN IT, i mean just box out a little and extend your arms.

bottom line is when your 7'0 250 lbs and have the skill set of Bargagni you need to be a problem for the opposing team each and every night, whether it be in the paint or on the perimeter.

Bargs not stepping up and being a 20ppg scorer when Bosh was out was very telling. He doesn't seem to have that attitude where he wants to just kill the other team night in and night out, on either end of the court.

I totally agree with the criticism about Bargs' effort on the road - he needs to bring it up a notch.

With all of that criticism said, we all have very lofty expectations on Bargs. He's finally developed to the point where he's not a liability to leave out on the court, and he's starting to slowly take advantage of situations in the paint.

Considering that 2 years ago Bargs was a 10ppg 3.7 rpg 38.6% shooting bust with a laserbeam for a shot, he's made some nice strides. It's tough watching him put up a solid 22/11 like in the last game and being disappointed when he doesn't do that every night. But he's getting better and better. Hopefully next season he can really pick up the scoring in the post and rebounding.

bosh didn't look great either, when he recieved his first double teams,

it was 6 or 7 games, doesn't anyone remember last year when Bosh was out, Bargs had big games, but the fact was then he wasn't geting doubles

i think eventually he would figure it out

he gets to much credit when we win and to much when we lose,

I guess all those guys who constantly blow by our guards, and giving our bigs trouble doesn't really matter, hell even amir johnson looks like a bad defensive player at times because of htese guards

but I do agree that Bargs needs to do more, but his stats suggest consistency, you couldn't have those stats if your not consistent

He is definitely clutch, cant take that away. Making shots and playing D with a purpose.
But when he posts up its just awkward, too fast, too unbalanced.

Bargs is one of the best Players in the NBA. If he wants to. And if he'd do it every game. His last one vs the Hawks was impressive.

Crush the Boards, play with energy and stop takin 3-Pointers all the way.
If Bargs would do that, he'd a fuckin star!

Bargnani doesn't seem to be the type of player that crashes the boards game in game out. And he just may always be inconsistent with his play.

He's a mentally a fairy. That's why he rolls over on the road.

When he figures this out, he'll grab atleast 8 boards a game like Nowitzki and this team will be a threat.

I agree. When he posts up he doesn't back up the opposing player close to the basket. He backs up a step and just turns and throws up a fadeway.

BTW, this is my first post on RF. I've been lurking for awhile and finally decided to join.

When Bargs and Hedo are on their A-game collectively, this team could look unstopable with a little heart and more defense.
