Grange: Colangelo needs to be re-signed

Quote:

My vote is firmly for MLSE to retain Colangelo; the sooner the better and with a contract that shows their commitment to him.
Quote:

Wed all have more confidence in MLSE if theyd recognized they wanted to fire Colangelo and had an alternative plan in place and made the move in December. That would suggest sports intellects in charge that could plot a clear path and execute.

But that never happened and instead there was the single person most closely identified with a $399-million asset and one of the most influential and respected figures in the sport giving a season-ending press conference qualifying nearly every answer with some version of If Im here and listing his accomplishments like an MBA grad at a job interview: In terms of passion for the business and dedication to the organization I would hope people think I am the right guy.
Quote:

Those so eager to see Colangelo move on might want to give a some hard thought to what the Plan B might be.

And as the ping pong balls fall on May 17th and the Raptors end up sliding down instead of up in what is already projecting to be a very weak draft with top prospects opting for the shelter of school rather than the uncertainty of the locked-out NBA, dont be surprised if Colangelo looks around and decides trying to convince the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan that hes the right man for the job just isnt worth a coke or a bag of chips, not for three bucks and a few million times more than that.

i agree. this guy could move on if he isnt signed. now he may not have an as easy time finding a job after he left pheonix, but work will be there. i see NY as a strong possibility if MLSE shows they're not loyal

a lot rests on the strength of his relationship with Tannenbaum.

the last time we brought in a last minute GM signing before the draft gave us Hoffa.

His contract expires AFTER the draft. BC will be drafting regardless of if he gets a new contract or not.

lol and if he knows hes not getting a new contract he could screw the organization over by drafting....i don't know, jimmer with our 3rd pick? what can we do about it? fire him? lol

if he's spiteful, that could suck... I'd be more inclined to think he takes the high road and just says he's resigning and not making the pick.... than to have a bum pick on his record, especially if the bum pick was a euro... then haters would have more to hate about... lol

Nah, BC won't do that.

It would tarnish his reputation and make his job-hunting more dangerous.

I you can't get Kevin Prichard, you have to sign BC!
You don't want a punk as a GM who know shit about basketball!!!

MLSE gonna hire a puck head as basketball GM!

Pritchard has a lot of bad decisions on his resume, so he'd be a good candidate if he's learned from them.

Name me a GM that has been around the block in NBA that hasn't made bad decisions or decisions that just didn't work no matter what it looked like when it was made.

I'm not a big BC guy but draft night could get ugly. Sign his extension soon as possible before the draft. Draft night could turn ugly.

How so? He's still the one making the pick either way in all likelyhood. Plus i would say this should be resolved by the end of May. Oddly there seems to be no rush and there seems to be no plan or search for his replacement if they choose to can him. Very fucked up situation.

He could resign before that point.... if he feels under-appreciated

What if he tanks? What if he turns away from scouting and has his mind on the extension first? This stuff messes around with your head. He won't be fully committed on draft night.

I don't know what to think anymore about MLSE and what the hell they're doing. But imo he'll make the pick and do a good job. And if he isn't the one here making the pick our scouting staff will still be there and whoever is in place (probably the other Italian :cwm34:, temporarily) will probably have a top 3 pick and if so how can that be fucked up :face4:

:laughing1:

FoldedLaundry 04-19-2011 12:55 AM

BC will end up making the draft pick call. BC has to be resigned before that though. To me he has to stay, there's no one else around in the league to replace him and I just want to see him finish what he started. Plus he's got the trust of DD and maybe some other players.
