Grange believes the Raptors will go after Nash this summer

Quote:

Colangelo and the Raptors have done a good job losing with dignity this season and the club is well-positioned for a top-five pick in the deep June draft, which -- if all goes well -- will leave them well-stocked with gifted young players, but short of veterans to leverage them.

Quote:

It's not something the Raptors could ever talk about, but those that know Colangelo suggest it's just the kind of move he'd push hard for if he had the chance.

The Raptors will have enough cap room in the summer to pay Nash more on a short-term (two or three years) than any contender would be able spend and more than the Suns would likely be willing to pay as they stare hard at rebuilding.

It can't happen until July 1st, which is a long way from Thursday's trade deadline, but perhaps Anthony's pouting and James Dolan's determination to support his star over his coach puts one more brick in the bridge that could bring Nash to Toronto.

Now with, D'Antoni out in New York, there's even more of a possibility that this happens!

Bargn88 03-14-2012 03:06 PM

We have 10Mil in capspace this summer without amnestying Jose's 10Mil

And if we were to bring in Nash why keep Jose?

carp 03-14-2012 03:37 PM

Do it!!! Would be fantastic... makes me think they're very confident JV is going to be ready to make a substantial impact.

Quite honestly, I'm alright with getting Nash, and leaving our SF spot as is for next year. While not ideal, James Johnson and Linas Kleiza splitting time at the 3 (with maybe a draftee getting some minutes), while not ideal, is at least passable for the 3 spot.

But why not bring in Chandler or Batum if we have the money to do so? We'd then have depth at the 3-4 spots to make a deal for depth, not to mention whoever we draft.

Batum isn't going anywhere..... he's way too good for Portland to let him go and WC just wamts more coin than he's worth.... not going to happen.

I believe we'll end up with Chandler this summer.

Chiggmo 03-14-2012 03:45 PM

I'd still like for us to somehow get a mid-late first and grab a PG prospect somehow as well...

I don't think he'd be cool with an assistant coach job, but I would welcome him as one on the Raptors.

Honestly, this could end up being the move of the decade for the Raptors. I don't see why Nash couldn't play at a high level for another 2-4 years, we'd be set at the pg spot for that time, and the fans would go crazy. 2014 All Star game in Toronto!

Nash is a must. IF you market him. new pick, JV and Bargs I could envision near sellouts next year
