The great thing now is with having Casey and his defensive system, we can hide Nash pretty well and he wont be a glaring weakness.

It makes too much sense to not happen. We have cap space, Nash is Canadian, Nash is a free agent, Nash likely would love to play closer to home, and he can capitalize on an entire nation following him on a game to game basis. We'd start winning, Derozan and Bargs would be a force with Nash, the pressure on Valanciunius wont be as heavy.

I just dont see a downside to a 2 year deal.

i just don't see why he would be interested. if he has any chance to play for a contending team, or at least a deep playoff team, he's going to take that over playing in toronto, which really isn't any closer to his 'home' on the west coast than where he currently lives (phx and nyc). surely he must be thinking about rings and playoff runs at this stage in his career.

tyson chandler will not come to toronto, and i know carmelo won't either. They are in NY, biggest media, great city (americans view NY better than TO as do most people... I obviously love TO) with big contracts. They won't come to Toronto.. BOOK IT.

Nash would be great, but he deserves to go on a contender, not a rebuilding team. Like the Heat or Lakers. Nash with bynum/gasol. He deserves a ring. But I would love for him to come here for Canadian basketball.

Good for him...

Quote:
Steve Nash is almost certain to remain with the Suns through the deadline.

"Everyone else is more worried about [my future] than I am," said Nash. "There is so much talk of it, it's almost become noise now."

While Nash has had an excellent season at the age of 38, the Suns are on the outside of the Western Conference playoff picture.

Nash isn't going to request a trade and isn't anxious to play for a more competitive team.

"If I get the chance to compete for a championship, that would be great," says Nash. "If I don't, there is still a lot of reward to be had. It's an interesting dichotomy. In one respect I want to win a championship, but not at all costs. I'm not just going to chase one. I feel a sense of loyalty to my teammates. Maybe there is a time you part ways, maybe there is not."

Nash will strongly consider re-signing with the Suns. Nash highly values the training staff, quality of life in the Phoenix area and the Suns can also pay him the most money.

if we sign nash first, it would also make it easier to get the other piece since everybody wants to play with him

the only downside is that we'd have to still look for a PG to replace nash in 2 years or so

Isn't the 2013 draft loaded with PG's?

seems like i am the only one not totally in love with this idea. Nash was what... maybe 2 good years left in him? If we're trying to set ourselves up long term, i don't see much of a point for such a short term move.

Plus you have the argument that others were making about how desirable toronto even is for him given how far away we are from contending.

i'm with you fancy. i can see the upside of having him, but i'd rather concentrate on getting the right pieces for longterm success. it would be a marketing dream for the MLSE and it would probably keep BC employed, but i'm hoping for the a team that can make the playoffs like the jazz used to, not like our normal Raptors have been.

it might not be the absolute best thing for the long term answer of this team. however if he were signed, and we had some sort of project behind him at the pg spot along with the youth we currently have he would be an unbelievable mentor.

Nash is know for his tireless work ethic and his absolute professionalism, and having that rub off on this group would be awesome.

Not to mention it would make the team fun to watch again. team has been one of the least exciting teams to watch since vc was here. there is a reason our team's games arent broadcast in the states and even here in canada on the tsn and snet's dirt bastard couosin chanels, and that is there is no excitement on this team.

i don't find effort being an issue here right now, and i find that's the only thing making the Raptors games bearable to watch right now. i completely understand why people want nash here even at 38, but he'd be a step back for two reasons;

1) he's old as fuck

2) even in his prime, he couldn't defend.

i understand the idea of having him groom someone, but when has that ever worked? i'd honestly rather see us use our cap space on getting players like chandler and brooks.

drajic looks pretty good.

he's old yes, but has steve actually showed ANY signs of regression in his play? His numbers are about the same as they have been for years and he is doing it with a worse team.

i haven't seen him play much this year, but no offence, i doubt many of us have to properly assess if his play has regressed. he's a smart player who'll be able to play well into the stockton years, but i don't want to be the team that holds on to a player that long if all it's getting us is season renewals and a first round exit.

dragic looks good, but he's still a back-up. look at the point guards that played behind the likes of stockton, kidd and magic. what they learn depends on the young player, not the necessarily the leader. you get a player who listens, it would be great to have nash here, but now you're banking on too many variables.

I also dislike the idea of the downside defensively. I was promised a pg of the future, and I expect him to be a nice two way player, and a player that will be here in the future. So this doesn't really do it for me, although I could live with a two year deal.
