Grange: BC likely to make move before trade deadline

Hmm ... I personally didn't think Rasho's contract would be all that appealing to teams this year, but maybe BC has some tricks hidden up those sleeves of his.

I think he will make a move because his team has needs (a reliable third option at point guard, presuming Ford does come back) and perhaps another big to provide the added athleticism; rebounding and shot-blocking that Baston was in theory supposed to offer. As well, hes got some pieces to do it in the form of some cap-friendly contracts that might be attractive to a team looking to dump: Dixon and Martin come off the books this year; Nesterovic, Graham and Baston all come off the books after next season.

I dont see why getting rid of rasho, hes the only true center on this team.

I really like Rasho, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he is not in the long term plans for the Raps, so if they can get something for him that will help the team now and down the road as well then he'll be moved.

Rasho was brought in to ease the transition into the NBA for Bargs - whether he goes this season or next will probably be decided on his value on the market around the trade deadline - If Colangelo can package him with someone else and add a necessary piece to the team then I think he'll be moved, otherwise he's a nice contract for some team next season looking to clear some cap space.

Other then him the Raptors dont have a lot of great pieces to offer - Graham and Baston are probably only good for a 2nd round pick, Dixon and Martin have small contracts, not going to help any teams with upcoming salary issues.

To really make a major move, Colangelo is going to have to move a roatation player (probably someone from the 2 or 3 spot)

What is clear is we need a big man. If we get rid of rasho We cant expect to have only bargs and bosh there.

Absolutely.

There seems to be a lot of talk about another PG (and it is true we do need some depth at that position) but there's no way the Raps can compete on a nightly basis against bigs like D12, Okafor, Curry with only Bargs or Bosh.

Seems like a team filled with 7 or 8 guys who are 8th - 10th in the rotation type players
(Delfino, Hump, Baston, Dixon, Graham, Martin, Rasho, Kapono) - BC is always looking for the 'hidden gem', which is great, but not every player he acquires is going to fit that mold, and he made a great find in Moon, but some of these other guys need to move on to different situations.

The problem we have with bargs is huge IMO, I mean, we cant make any major move until we know if bargs is going to become a decent Center. In the PG position Ukic will be a great signing for next year (if it happends), and if Bargs doesnt develop (I think he will), Dalembert is a great idea.

Acie 01-22-2008 10:49 PM

If there's anything to be encouraged by, it's that Hump is only 22 and is still getting better. He'll be a perfect back-up to Bosh for years to come. ;)

Belsius 01-22-2008 10:57 PM

Yeah, but I wish our bench players were more consistant, one week good, one not...
Its difficult to relay on them if they play that way.

Acie 01-22-2008 11:02 PM

Well they'd also benefit from playing with either TJ or a fresh Jose, not an exhausted Jose and either Juan or Darrick.

fancylad 01-23-2008 08:11 AM

yes. I don't like the idea of losing Hump at this point. He's been more effective than Bargnani as a centre currently - even if he is somewhat of a black hole.

Really, i can't see BC aqcuiring a big man without losing a valuable guard - be it Anthony Parker, Kapono, etc. If he were to move on, i'd lean towards trading Kapono...

I still think another PG is more needed than a big right now.

MangoKidHoops 01-23-2008 10:01 AM

I'd really like a guy like Reggie Evans, but it's such a shame that he's such a dick. He'd be prefect for what ails this team.

you don't understand, it's not a question of what we do if bargnani doesn't develop - because in that case we're screwed big time. Where do you think we'll get our center, certainly not through drafting - and no sane team will trade any good center. Best case scenario you're stuck with somebody like Rasho, good defensive with no offense.
