Default Grange is 100% Committed to Trading JO

Grange's turn today to have fun regarding Jermaine.

Actually, good read from Grange and he makes some valid points as to why its important to deal JO now (if we can) instead of waiting till next season.

I think it's the most important move this franchise can make if they have any realistic hope of adding the kind of talent around Bosh, Bargnani and Calderon to become anything more than a middling low-playoff seed from now until they get worse.

One of the validations for trading for O'Neal in the first place was that his massive contract came off the books in 2010, leaving the Raptors well under the cap the same summer that Chris Bosh was expected to be become a free agent.

The presumption was that with two deep playoff runs behind them the Raptors would be in position to use that space to add the missing pieces around Bosh, Bargnani and Calderon that would help them make the next step. O'Neal would either be part of it at deep discount to his previous contract or with the emergence of Bargnani he'd move on and the Raptors would find a third big for their rotation elsewhere.

To me there are two reasons why they can't wait that long to make something happen.

The first is that it's not clear that O'Neal is good enough to lift this team far beyond where they'd be without him. It's not that he can't play or that he couldn't help win a playoff game.

It's just that this group isn't good enough regardless of what he brings to break into the top four or five in the East.

The risk then is that in the summer of 2010 Bosh will have had four straight first-round playoff exits on his resume when he's trying to decide his future -- maybe less, the way things are going.

It's vital then that the Raptors need to do whatever possible to be in a position to add talent next summer to build a team deeper in top talent than this one is now or projects to be. Moving O'Neal's not-quite-expiring contract puts the Raptors in position to make those moves before 2010, with the added benefit of having a better base of talent to work with if Bosh leaves.

The other reason is that Bargnani is finally playing in a role he's happy about and he's proving it with his production of late. To me it's too big a risk for not enough reward to sit Bargnani down (when O'Neal comes back) now that he's finally delivering. And there's no one I've talked to around the organization that suggests that O'Neal is the kind of guy who would readily accept coming off the bench.

Finding a way to move O'Neal sooner than later solves that problem too.

And then there's the possibility that the Bulls might be a reasonable trading partner for the Raptors if they are going to move J.O. It means nothing, but I feel bound to report that Colangelo and Chicago GM John Paxson were chatting for 30 minutes during shoot-around this morning. That's what they're paid to do, in part -- talk to other GMs, so it's probably more noteable if they don't talk, but there you go.

I've been pounding the drum – kind of – for an O'Neal to the Knicks for Marbury, waive Marbury deal. My sense is that it's not outside the realm of possibility, but it's never been discussed. But as for including Anthony Parker (and getting Malik Rose back – an exchange of expiring contracts) as a sweetener for the Knicks, who need a two-guard and would have to pay O'Neal next season, that would not be part of the conversation, were it to happen, I'm told.

that's why we beat them with our stellar front court play... sigh.. we can score, but we got destroyed on the glass again... maybe JO can help, but AB and CB grabbed almost 20 rebounds, but had we grabbed a few in the first quarter, we might not have been in the position we were in late... 12 - 1 offensive boards in the first half? man that stinks... THAT is what we need to fix..

[quote=Quad Core;120140].HELL NO.JO=SIX TIME ALLSTAR.QUOTE]

he WAS a six time all star, he is nothing like that player. His body is falling apart and he is a shell of his former self. Bargs is getting better, JON is getting worse.

JON's falling production:
2004 24ppg
2005 20 ppg
2006 19 ppg
2007 13.6 ppg
2008 14 ppg

Notice a trend?

He has also missed, on average, 30 games a year over the last 4 years and he has already missed 12 games this year.

Get JON OUT!

Honestly at this point if the Marion thing falls through (I could see Miami going for Brad Miller instead or something), I'd be half up for Marbury for JO. It'd be the same expiring and we'd probably get a higher pick. Could be worse

Yes, but how many of those were long rebounds? I believe I saw Rose pick up 3 or 4 long rebounds. Our guards are terrible at boxing out and rebounding. It's one big reason why we get out rebounded. Our bigs are becomign decent rebounders. Andrea has really improved, you can see that he boxes out (except for that Boston game) and is beginning to fight and reach for those boards.

Delfino was a good guard rebounder, he's not the answer by any stretch, but having players of that mold at the guard position, who know how to box out their man, would make us a far better rebounding team.

Chicago has no low post presence whatsoever and they're really missing that. Noah, Gooden, Thomas and Gray are mediocre. JO would provide an offensive upgrade for them.

We really need to trade JO. Maybe to Miami or CHI. I think they are the front runners. Nocioi or Marion would help this team a lot

Nocioni isnt much of an upgrade from kapono. We need a guy that create off the dribble and create his own shit... like baron davis, VC, or even stephen jackson. That would help us.

Marion is a better fit than Nocioni for sure.

trade Kapono and JO to get Baron Davis. He's really good friends with Bosh. Or... trade Bargnani and kapono and get Vince.

Calderon Vince Graham Bosh O'neal. It's alot better than what we have now.
