Graham's future

Restricted free agent's fortunes have improved under Triano, making decision to re-sign tough

The argument can be made that Graham has blossomed into an NBA regular under Triano's three-month tenure, even to the point of becoming an NBA starter.

But are those three months a true indication of his talents or just the confluence of confidence, playing time and a miserable season from his team?

Does Graham, a 26-year-old restricted free agent this summer, feel he merits consideration for a new deal?

"I still think about that," the 6-foot-8 forward said yesterday. "When I first came here, I was like: `This is a great city, I'm going to be here for a long time.' I still think about that, but if other opportunities present themselves, then that's what it is. When it gets to that, it's a business. I don't look too much into the business end of it."

oh i think he totally merits getting a new deal. Now in no way should we overspend to keep him, but i also suspect that Joey would rather stick with us than start somewhere new. Considering how un-athletic this team is, we need to hold on to one of the few good guys we have in this regard.

Man, Joey keeps on growing. He was listed at 6'5" (in official measurements at the combines), 6'6" to 6'7" on whatever bio page you might look at, and now, he's 6'8".

I think he's 6'7''

maybe he had a growth spurt in his mid 20's, U never know

I don't get how they can't put out the correct height.
Mankind has made innovations to take us to space but we can measure the height of a player

I would like to keep him... and i think the fact he's only played 3 good months will keep his contract reasonable....both in his mind and that of his agent.

Claudius 03-10-2009 10:27 AM

I've become a believer, that maybe he should be let go. He's been in the league for what? 4 years now? He still makes some really dumb decisions out there. He's playing to his ability right now and I don't think he'll ever develop the intelligence needed to take his game to the next level. If he wants to resign for say 3 million/year. Sure. But any more? Let him walk.

He's producing on a team right now, that's terrible both offensively and defensively at times. On a team, who's expectations have been reduced, he's stepping up i.e. no pressure on him. And he still makes mistakes.

that would certainly be the MAXIMUM amount i would consider as well.

doesn't Hump make less than that btw? I would say they should be earning around the same.

Acie 03-10-2009 10:42 AM

A contract similar to Hump would be fine, but anything over that and I'd be tempted to let him walk.

MangoKidHoops 03-10-2009 10:46 AM

I think Hump got something like 2.5/year for 5 years. (12.5 mil total for you math majors). But yeah, 3 million is the most I'd give him.

In shoes he's about 6'7", but without, he's 6'5".

Joey will get more money then Hump next season. I think he wants AP or Garbo money... something like 4 or 4,5 million.

And off course, AP will ask for 5 or 6... since he cannot be paid same money as Joey. :cheers2:

Windex 03-10-2009 10:53 AM

Hump is making $3.2 mil for 08/09 and 09/10 w/ a player option of $3.2 mil in 10/11

This year and next Kris is making 3.2... Joey is making 2,5 this and 3.4 next year...

Claudius 03-10-2009 10:56 AM

Well, I guess you let him walk then. Any more than 3 is way too much for him.

Acie 03-10-2009 10:57 AM

I think the qualifying offer is in the 3 - 3.5 million range, so he's going to get at least that.

Windex 03-10-2009 10:59 AM

3 and 10 sounds good to me
if its over that he walks

MangoKidHoops 03-10-2009 11:02 AM

My mistake. I don't know why I thought 12.5 for 5, but in reality, it was 9 million for 3 years.

Krazy Ivan 03-10-2009 11:06 AM

IMO... some team will offer Joey more then Raps' qualifying offer... will see what BC plans to do then.

he better plan to let him walk at that point. with kaps and banks already making close to $12mil we can't have another one of those guys on the squad.
