That would be nice. Trade for Mayo, sign Chandler and draft Knight.

Bayless/Knight
DD/Mayo
Chandler/Johnson
Davis/Amir
?

Then all you have to worry about is the Center spot which won't be easy. And with that roster it would bother me a little less to keep Bargnani a little while longer if need be. 1 through 4 would be pretty set.

ryan russillo mention yesterday that the wolves, Raptors and wizards are going to be looking to trade out. i don't know how much substance there is to that comment, but the more i think about it, the more likely it seems a possibility.

I would make two trades then. Trade for the #2 pick and deal our 5th pick in a package for a Center. Lol

Actually, potential is not the only concern. For some, that is not the factor. Maximizing current assets is part of it, too. For example, some of the players 'trane listed are available via FA. So, if possible, I'd rather keep the pick AND add other talent via FA signing or TPE and other trades (Barbossa is expiring). In fact, I think Barbossa is better than some of the vets we could get, assuming he is healthy.
my comments were targeting the fan base, not the actual value in terms of how general managers see them. obviously the glove doesn't fit everyone, but i remember feeling this way myself about the draft and potential. to me, the biggest benefit to the draft is the contract. like 'trane, i wouldn't mind us targeting felton with our pick. the problem with that is he's a free agent next season while the draft pick would here until 2015-2016.

Yeah, I like Felton as a player, so he's a decent option. But there always is that concern that he could leave just as the team is fully developed (2 years), whereas the pick could be here longer term (depending on the new CBA).

I like some of the players 'trane listed, but it would be sweeter if we could maybe sign an FA and keep the pick. We'll just have to see what happens.

Yeah, it's probably a pipe dream. But the reason I thought there would be a slim chance is because Denver has several free agents that they need to re-sign. They are going to have a difficult time retaining the lineup they had last year. Nene, Chandler, Afflalo, Jr. Smith are all eligible for new contracts. So is K-Mart, but he's not as much of a priority since he is older. I think Chandler is going to get overpaid. Will Denver choose to overpay? I think it's possible they are forced to trade him, depending on whehter Nene agrees to stay. Going after Afflalo is probably more realistic. I also agree that the Felton trade option, if available, is worth considering.

Hmmm.... just saw a clip of an interview with BC. He was talking about the draft and said.... (paraphrasing)....

"We're not necessarily looking for a player that can make an immediate impact. We may take a guy and develop him for a couple of years."

Not sure that I like the sound of that.... unless he's talking about a guy like Knight.

Bismack (offensively I think he'll make a instant impact on D) and Jones V are both projects.

I'd be happy with Valanciunas as the pick. I've said this before a number of times, though.

His game seems like it doesn't have any obvious holes, except maybe his size - and he's been getting steadily bigger and stronger.

Also, he's been improving and working hard for a good number of years.

Besides lacking strength I do agree - he has improved a lot and at 19 lots of upside. I wouldn't consider it though unless he committed to coming here. The team doesn't need a Vasquez or Rubio situation.

I think that Gherardini's European connections could be very useful for negotiating Valanciunas' transfer to Toronto. Gherardini probably knows what it will take to get him over here, in terms of money and time.

Having Linus here I'm sure doesn't hurt the cause.

I don't like Valanciunas at all. Aside from his wingspan, he leaves a lot to be desired defensively. And offensively, despite having a nice stroke and shooting well from the stripe, I've never seen him even attempt a jump shot, and I've watched a few hours of game footage. I know he's young, but there's just no variety in his arsenal. Pick and dive over and over and over. I've seen Biyombo display a more versatile bag of tricks, and he's supposedly the rawest of the raw.

Jonas does what he is asked to do. And if PnR works and is effective (70% FG) why change it?
He is the only one in this draft who played 100% C against a proper competition. And apart from growing some muscle, he is set to go for NBA

I like the idea Jeff...

Memphis is in a tough spot as they will be around 50 mill next year and they still gotta sign Gasol who will surely command 10 minimum. They lose Battier too (Who I would love to see BC sign as an AP type of player.) so they might have no choice but to deal Mayo for some cap relief and cheap assets.

Thing is, I think we have greater concerns then getting a solid 6th man. We need a C who will anchor our defence. It's priority number one in my books. Even if we're stuck with Bayless and Calderon next year, things won't be anywhere near as bad with an aggressive 7 footer who will change most of the shots/drives inside and swallow rebounds.

Guys who are on the market?

Gasol? Memphis will most likely match anything for him. Jordan? If the Clips can't find a suitor for Kaman, they might not be able to afford him...Kaman? Big contract, very solid player but leaves a little to be desired in terms of being a defensive centrepiece...Dalembert? Would be a great fit I think on a 2 year deal.

Too many decisions. Too many directions.

BC is gonna have a hell of a time playing fantasy basketball this summer...

Pretty sure DEN is going to extend a qualifying offer to Chandler making him a RFA, and that there's no way they're not going to match any offer that comes around and end up letting him go since J.R. Smith is a UFA. They'd rather keep Chandler than Smith.
