Cavs Globe and Mail: Parker lands on his feet

I'd still love to have a quality vet like him on our bench. Actually, I'd still like to have him on our bench.

Quote:
“For players like me it's all about getting in the right situation,” says Parker, who is projected to start for the Cavaliers as Delonte West's mental health has been thrown into question after he was arrested last month driving a motorcycle with three loaded guns and charged in a domestic incident on the weekend. “When you're in the right situation you can seem a lot better than you actually are and when you're in a bad situation you can seem a lot worse than you actually are.”

Parker may be being modest. The dead-eye three-point shooting, consistent defending and solid locker room presence he exhibited with the Raptors wasn't enough to lift the club to the NBA's elite, but to the NBA's elite – Parker also fielded serious inquiries from the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic in the off-season – those are exactly the qualities they need to support their superstar talent.

Similarly Moon may have been miscast as a starter, the role he fulfilled with the Raptors for most of two seasons before being traded to Miami last February, but the Cavaliers welcomed his ability to guard multiple positions as a bench player. With Humphries and Graham it was never their talent that was in question, just the matter of harnessing it.

The common theme for all four former Raptors – who coincidentally occupied four consecutive stalls in the Raptors locker room – is that they were considered low-maintenance off the court and were popular among their teammates. Or, as Parker put it, “People know I'm not going to do anything crazy in the locker room

You know if I had a nickel for each time I talked about this last year i'd be rich.

A lot of people fair to see how a team is built. You NEED guys like Parker if you want to build a winner. Period.

hahaha, i had no idea that delonte was driving a motorcycle, thought he was in a car

I think parker will do great in cleveland. A perfect complement to an already contending team. So well rounded and complete, we might miss him this season. If parkers ever decides to teach lebron how to shoot a true MJ fade-away then its over. Lets hope moons fade away rubs off on lebron instead

It's too bad we lost AP. The way I understand it, Bryan thought he'd have to give up AP to get Hedo and so AP started seriously looking and signed days before the big deal that allowed us to keep the mid level etc... so as it turned out financially we could easily have kept him but it was a matter of timing.

Oh well...now he has a legit chance of winning a ring. He deserves it.

taking someone's job that has a history of mental issues and owns multiple guns is a good situation?

I love Grange, so much so that I am thinking of switching from The Star to G&M because of the way the respective papers cover basketball (well, that and the fact that Star is way too liberal for my tastes).

Anyway, the following quote struck a nerve:

Quote:
How does Parker explain the fact that players deemed not good enough for the 33-win Raptors have been picked up by teams where 50 wins is a near given and runs deep into the playoffs are expected?

Part of the reason, suggests Parker, is in the NBA, typically, teams go as far as their top players can take them. The role players that surround them are complimentary pieces that are counted on to add flavour, not provide the protein. In Cleveland, he and Moon are strictly role players on hand to help out O'Neal and James with the heavy lifting.
Yep. No shit. Precisely.

Parker was great here, and will definitely be missed. It's too bad that so many people soured on him; I thought a lot of the criticism he took towards the end of last year was unfair. I'm glad he signed on with a contending team and will get a chance to start.

Good player, good person, and someone I will be very happy to see succeed.

Parker looks good indeed in his first start. Moon looks... well... like Moon.

He looked good to start. Not so good at the end. He'll be much better if he can come off the bench, or at least play fewer minutes.

He'll look much better if they get a coach who can teach Lebron to play with his teammates. That team is in dire need of a new head coach.

Wow 40 mins of play for Parker this game. The only other player on Cavs to get that is Lebron. Seems they'll be leaning heavy on Parker every game now that Delonte is out.

He did play a lot more than he should have - but they don't have any better options at SG, now do they?

BTW, no matter what his coach does or does not do, LeBron is an awe-inspiring player. His stat line looks absolutely ridiculous.

On a trip to memory lane...
Does anybody remember a game beginning of last season where AP had 4 dunks? Some plays were ran for him then.

I do remember that one game.... did he finish the year with 10?

He was never "great" here and I think he is a nice guy. Too many of the Raptors have been nice guys. Mo Pete was also too nice. Those types never layed a hand on opponents... took too many ill-advised shots, and played very over-rated defence.

Just because Cleveland has no 2 guards doesn't mean he could play here. Bellinelli, Wright, Derozan and Jack are all better than him at this stage. I have seen enough fade away 17' jumpers from him. Too many nights of 3 for 10, no FT's, few rebounds, minimal contributions... and those aren't including the games he just didn't show up.

Wish him well on Cleveland's sorry group of misfits packaged with Lebron. And let me be the first to congratulate Moon on many more 3-point attempts!!! How did he get 3M/year???
