Default Globe: DeRozan to get a long look

From the Globe:

Quote:
Toronto rookie DeMar DeRozan admitted he was confused at first about taking a bus to London. I though we were going to London, across seas, he said.

...

DeRozan will get his chance to show he can make an impact as the No. 9 pick of the 2009 draft. With Antoine Wright staying home to nurse a sore right knee, its likely DeRozan will get the nod to start tonight.

I havent really been paying attention to it; [starting] would be great, he said.

He said hes a fan of Iguodala, who has emerged as one of the best two-way players in the NBA and the focal point of a fast, physical 76ers youth movement.

Hes a great player. I get that comparison [to Iguodala] sometimes, DeRozan said. Thats a great comparison. Its going to be great to play against him. Itll be a great test for me.

I think Iguodala is the perfect comparison for DeRozan if he fully develops. I'd be estatic to have someone like AI9 in our lineup.

Just thinking about Igoudala and the Toronto Raptors in the same thought pisses me off.

I watched them interview DeMar and they asked him if he knew anything about London, Ontario and he said absolutely nothing. "I thought we were going overseas."

I know, I know. Sorry brother.

It pisses me off that we didn't trade our #7, #16 and MoPete to New Orleans for Chris Paul on the night of the 2005 draft.

i usually don't get bothered by poor draft picks (hindsight always being 20/20), but that one was just such a hard pill to swallow. Especially considering the garbage that we ended up (sorry TORap ) with and what we could have had .

That was the rumoured deal, but Babcock kept both picks. Hindsight is 20-20. For every Paul supporter, there were 2-3 guys who felt exactly the opposite and thought that they would flop.

Gurk, are you saying that the Charlie/Joey draft was more dissapointing than the Haffa one?

what?

I was talking about Haffa.

What do Joey and Charlie have to do with the Haffa draft pick?

Gurk, my point was that i don't like thinking about Andre Igoudala and the Toronto Raptors because we could have ended up with Iggy instead of a bum center who couldn't make it in Russia.

Any word on when we can expect to see the behind the scenes of draft night, BC/Triano + others in the boardroom talking draft. Doesn't that usually come out around this time?

I'm a sucker for that stuff. Just like i can't wait for the week long look at training camp in Ottawa coming soon on RapsTv.

When I saw the post about DeMar potentially blossoming into an AI9 prototype I began to lamment the Hoffa draft. I can still remember sitting in my living room and watch the draft with my parents, something I normally had not done in previous years and telling them that we were going to draft Iguodala. Just as Stern walked up to the podium I repeatedly stated Iguodala, Iguodala, Iguodala and then he said it, with the 8th pick in the NBA draft, The Toronto Raptors select Rafael Araujo from Brigham Young University. I was in utter shock and my parents must have thought I lost my mind, but I was so upset I couldn't even begin to comprehend what had transpired before my eyes. It was sheer desolation and watching him over the course of a few seasons was even worse.

I'm going to pretend that the Chris Paul rumour was never even a possibility, as I never heard that and I was keeping taps on that draft rather frequently.

Back to DeRozan, I hope he continues his progress not only tomorrow against the Celtics, but throughout the season. I expect a slow progression that may hopefully allow me to forget about the Hoffa ordeal.
