Default Gherardini: Andrea is exhausted

I think I mentioned this somewhere yesterday about Bargs being tired because of the ball he played and trained for over the summer, but Gherardini talks about a little bit here.

I guess all we can hope for is for him to recuperate soon and be back to his old self.

Recommendation: "Both physically and mentally," Gherardini said. "This was the first season in his career that he didn't stop over the summer (Bargnani played for Italy at the European championships) and those two months might have carried over into the season." There wouldn't seem to be a solution here, as the Raptors can't afford to simply bench him and let him rest, but at least Bargnani doesn't seem to be hiding a serious injury.

i don't buy it. Why isn't Rasho "exhausted"? Calderon? Delfino? How about other guys who played on their respective national teams?

Bargnani has hit the sophomore wall. that's all it is in my opinion. He came into the season with a new role to work on - being more of a traditional centre - and for now, he is nowhere near comfortable, confident, or experienced enough to succeed.

I still think he needs some more "blunt" motivation a la chris Bosh like last year.

The only thing I see with Bargnani and blunt motivation is that he won't able to handle it.

Rasho's 31 years old. Calderon 26. Delfino 25. Andrea is 22, and this is his first summer of nonstop activity.

I'll give him the exhausted excuse. It's a lot to handle at his age, compounded by the fact that he was a #1 pick and is trying (and currently failing) to meet expectations. He's trying to add a defensive and rebounding aspect to his game and it's distracting him from his main skill: scoring.

ok BBall. I suppose you have a point. I STILL think it's a bit of an excuse though, and i'm still not buying it.

Here's my sollution to how we can get Bargnani back to his "rookie" form:

Play him like we played him last year. Let him get his offensive confidence back. If that happens, he will just feel better about his all round game and will likely play with more defensive certainty, make fewer mistakes and so-on. I think it's gotten to that point where Sam stops forcing Bargnani to change his game, and lets it evolve more naturally.

I agree with fancy... let's get him back to basics and start building him up form there...
