I heard the Blue Jays pulled in bigger numbers. There is still lots of room to grow across the country. It will come though.

Any Leafs playoff game would still slaughter any raps playoff game. We're getting there though, plenty more seats on this bandwagon!

Again, besides the point since that's a given. These ratings are a huge step for this team, now it's a matter of sustaining and improving on the success for several years. I think that if this goes to game 7 we'll see 1mil +.

Winning cures everything or Leafs losing and not being in the playoffs cures everything?

I just hope they can keep the momentum going next year and for years to come in order to keep people watching. They have a strong opportunity to be a good team for years and seemingly the management team that can get things done. This fanbase deserves long term success imo. Hell, all the MLSE fanbases deserve that considering the money they fork over and support they give.

This is great news for the Raps and their fans. Also, can we please stop bringing up the Leafs for the rest of the playoffs? They aren't in the playoffs, they fucking suck and this is a basketball forum. Anyone that's want to discuss the Leafs from here on out should go to a hockey forum.

Certainly one of if not the best for sure. Considering what little success we've seen, the support is unbelievable.

Wow, I knew this game would have higher ratings then game 3, but 800,000 viewers...Nice work Raptors.....Hopefully this is the push we needed for two things to happen.

1. The NBA realizes Brooklyn is not the market they thought it was and tells the reffs (for the first time in 20 years) to starting swaying the games in the Raptors favour to try and take the series.

2. Our wonderful owners realize, hey, if this team is actually good, we can spend a little more money on this roster in order to make boatloads of money. MU, heres a blank check, we order you to go into the lux tax this off season and build a real winner, No more "When the time and circumstances are right, MLSE has given us the power to spend" bullshit, the time is now, and we must capitalize considering it took us 20 years to get a well rounded winning roster together...

Patience good sir. The summer of 2015 will be when MU adds some major pieces. Hayes and LF will be gone/off the books. That Novak contract is a pain in the ass. I kind of hope MU is able to get rid of it for an expiring.

DanH 04-29-2014 01:02 PM

In all likelihood, yes, the big improvements will be with cap space in 2015, and luxury tax becoming a reality in 2016 when Ross and JV get their pay raises.

But let's also not write off the possibility that Ujiri finds a way to make a big splash this summer. If he decides DD is the piece to move, I could see it becoming a package of DD/Salmons/TH/1st rounder(s) for a superstar type player (and bad salary ballast), especially if there are some first round upsets that suggest teams need to shake things up.

Paul George and David West if Indy blows things up? James Harden if he keeps imploding for HOU? Does OKC do something rash with Durant or Westbrook or Ibaka if they lose to MEM? What happens in GS, with all the turmoil there? Are Iggy or Curry suddenly available for the right price if the new coaching staff wants to go in a different direction? What about the Clippers and the huge mess they are right now? If Sterling refuses to sell, does every player request a trade? Even if not, with Doc probably forcing his way out, new heads in the front office means question marks aplenty roster wise. Is there suddenly a market for Chris Paul or Blake Griffin?

There's a lot of opportunity to make moves this summer. Or to move up in the draft (lots of teams with reason to trade picks or with multiple picks, which usually means it's easier to part with one of them). Or to wait on the upcoming cap space. And with the team's current success, so many windows are being opened - suggesting that whatever Ujiri does, there will be options aplenty to improve the team, and he just has to pounce when the opportunity is best.

yeah, I'm starting to get worried a bit that if we move on to the 2nd round, they'll try to rush the rebuilding, especially with the unexpected 5M extra cap space.

the problem is, as any economist will tell you, whenever you throw extra money in a closed market, you will inevitably end up with inflation. There will be a LOT of money to spend this summer, but the supply of players will not change.

what this means is, lowry will probably get an insane offer from somebody, and, generally speaking, all FAs will be overpriced.

so, as unpopular as it will be, the smart move is to wait this summer out (unless we find a bargain) and save our cash for 2015.

um, why would we downgrade from demar to harden ???
I would switch them even for the same salary, but harden makes almost twice as much.

'trane 04-29-2014 01:27 PM

no way ujiri keeps lowry and trades derozan. if lowry stays it will be, in a large part, because of derozan - band of brothers and all that. if he upgrades anywhere it will be at sf to pair with kl/dd. but i think he'll mostly keep things intact and go for 2015. this team clearly deserves another shot if he can keep them together.

and re the op, great news on the ratings. nice work canada.
