Nice stuff, and it's only game 4! Game 5 might surpass the Miami, spurs game 7 :O

Going to the square for that one though!

I would switch them even for the same salary, but harden makes almost twice as much.
Harden: .618 TS%, 23.5 PER, .221 WS/48
DeRozan: .532 TS%, 18.4 PER, .141 WS/48

Harden is a game changer offensively and terrible defensively. DD is solid offensively and bad-to-below-average defensively. Although personally Harden would be low on my list of potential acquisitions, he is a HUGE upgrade to DeRozan.

incidentally, i talked to a woman this morning who says she goes to all kinds of leafs and raps games because a relative owns a box, but that she's never actually watched a basketball game when there. she just chats with her friends and hangs out while the 'men' watch the sports, but has never bothered to watch herself. aaaack. how many people would do anything for box seats to a raps game?

anyways, at least she is finally talking about the team, asking questions and showing interest. i think the identity of this raps team (holy shit, we finally have an identity!) is making an impact on the general public. it's certainly the biggest buzz since prime vc. maybe even more so. toronto sports fans like guts and grit, and this team is showing it in spades.

Harden is a good offensive player.. his defense is wack though, and he doesn't pass the ball.. Harden would be good with a Jose Calderon kind of pg, but not with Lowry

So harden plays no d, scores, yet dosn't pass....That is for sure a downgrade on Demar.

1. Demar passes the ball heavily when his shots aren't going down. This year there was a number of high assist games that came from demar - team player
2. Harden is grossly overpaid, demar is not
3. Harden reminds me of guys (although not as good as them) Like AI and mello. Demand to shoot first, never ask questions later.....Mo Shots is not the way we go. MU will build a team, not a fantasy roster.

Coming from you, I believe it but I'd still go with DeMar over Scruffy.

I dont' think Harden is a huge upgrade over Derozan offensively. The gap between the two offensively has been shrinking each year and I think it will get even smaller next year. And I'm sure there is a statistical measure somewhere that suggests otherwise. I'm going off the eye test.

Oh, yeah, Harden doesn't pass the ball like DeMar "the assist man" DeRozan.

Harden: 27.3 AST% on 27.8 USG%
DD: 18.9 AST% on 28.0 USG%

Ok, ok lets bring out the big guns......

Derozen - 9.5 million for the next 3 years
harden - 14, 15, 16 million for the next three years

Harden averages 2.7 more points per game, .4 rebounds per game 2.1 assists per game (lets not forget Huston has shit point guards) while shooting the ball 2.7% more efficiently from the field and 6.1% more efficiently from 3 point land... = barely a game changing upgrade IMO, especially considering he will make roughly 5,6,7 million more over those three years...... im sure that money can go a lot future towards another player.....its like saying would you rather have James harden or would you rather have Derozen + Amir?

DeMar Wins........

I'd rather have Harden and Amir. No incoming salary will prevent us from re-signing Amir. We have his Bird Rights, and rich ownership that will pay tax for a winner.

The question is, would you rather have Harden, or DeMar and a shot to play with cap space in 2015 (a seemingly weak FA class right now). In terms of actionable cap space, that's the only difference. After 2015, all the cap space will be gone anyway when JV and Ross get raises.

And good luck keeping DD at his 9.5M when he opts out two seasons from now (when the tax issue involved with having, say, both a max level player and Amir at 7M would actually kick in).

on paper he is an upgrade, in reality he is not. During the regular season, sure - harden will help you to more wins. In the playoffs though, his defense is so bad and historically he struggled, starting from his time in OKC (where was he in the finals against Miami?).

And I disagree he's a game changer offensively, he's fairly easy to contain. He will abuse bad defenses and gets a lot of love from the refs. Against a good defense, that denies his penetration and cuts on fast break points (which most playoff teams can do), he's nothing but a mediocre jump shooter. He can't post anybody and there is no chance he will ever be able to post some day. He's undersized for his position, so he can't shoot over people either. He's a regular season star who will always struggle in the post season.

In my opinioin, outside PGs, very few players can get away without a post game in the playoffs (and score at an elite level). Unless you have some crazy height advantage like dirk or durant, you're not beating anybody with shooting or penetration. Virtually every playoff team has one defensive stopper who can fairly easily contain harden one on one.

And did I mention his defense is d-league level terrible? Look at the Houston team lately, they're starting 3 super elite defensive players, and still allow a shitload of points.

I'm far from a demar super fan - but harden is one of the most egregiously overvalued players I've seen in years. He's the antoine walker of this generation ... Ok, maybe not that bad - but not terribly far from it either.

When I think Harden I think 2012 NBA Finals.....He shriveled then,he's shriveling now with Houston. On both teams he had way better talent around him than Demar. DD has exceeded expectations as a 1a/b player so far and he isn't even playing that good in his first Playoff series. To top it off with comparing the contracts and production,DeRozan wins easily(Value Wise).

What I love about Derozan compared with so many other young star guards including harden is that three pointer off the dribble is not in his repetoire. I love that.

Fantastic news.

Perhaps the media can FINALLY start acknowledging that bball isn't just some "fad" that's going to go away.

I also like that DD is being mentioned as possibly on par with Harden now when a couple of months ago people were hesitant to even put him in the top 5. Progress!

I was listening to radio (the edge) on my way from work, and they were talking about the Playoffs and the buzz about the Raps in the city. That was surprising, because they don't normally talk much about sports and if they do it's mostly about hockey. Raptors are definitely getting some love lately
