we played the hawks this past week?

would Bosh rather guard Dampier? or how about Nowitzki?

On;y thing driving Bosh out of Toronto is Bosh himself.

i wouldn't say that we're running him out of town, but quite frankly EVERYTHING about this team has gone pear shaped. This season needs to end quickly.

If they say the Raps run their stars out look at the players that left.
People like VC and McGrady haven't been really useful to their new teams and Houston is better w/o T Mac.

Meh .... Bosh would be doing himself a favour by leaving Toronto. I hope he does go and blows it up elsewhere. Raptors fans annoy me now-a-days.

this is stupid....
we're running him out of toronto by matching up with tougher opponents?
really? should we be coddling him and have him guard the weakest player on the floor?
he's our biggest guy on the team, he'll probably have to guard the biggest guy on the other team... whats the problem?

snooch made a good point....
he had to guard brandon bass???
omigod!!!! a second year player who hasnt even made a name for himself??? god forbid!!! should he have been guarding dirk or damp?
this article is ridiculous.

Why's that?

We annoy you?

You live in a messageboard Bubble, we all do here. do you know that in Toronto, the fans that are filling the seats (and they ain't the ones on this board trust me) don't give a shit about any of this? They don't really follow all that closely, they don't hang on every word that 10 different writers across the US and Canada type every morning, they don't read mesageboards or look at Power rankings, they don't lose any sleep, and they don't give a shit about 27 games on TSN2.

Nobody, outside of the very small group of uber interested fanatics realy gives a shit, it's us guys that care. And so what? Our tiny little group seem to think we have an effect, we don't. Players don't give a shit what we write, they don't care at all. All they care about is filled seats and television coverage. All the clapping and smiling and cheering on the planet ain't gonna make that coverage appear or disappear. So for some dude, a moderator on a fanatic board, and yes, we are fanatics, to say he is tired of Raptor fans, as if they were so horrible and out of touch, well, i just don't understand it at all.

As for the team's part in this. Toronto gave that guy the keys to the car, and all the shit that goes with it. He gets the 100 foot tall banned on the condo's beside the Gardiner, he gets the radio, the television, the internet front pages, he gets the chances for all the local endorsements first, he gets the media guide, and the title franchise.

What is really asked in return?

Effort.
Ability.
Attitude.
Leadership.

And yes, at 6'10", and being a US olympic guy who has claimed MVP designs, occasions where he has to guard larger guys, which, if you're of MVP ilk, shouldn't be that much to ask.

Maybe he isn't made for Toronto, Toronto fans bases are notorious for being too educated, and for having a very short leash for less than 100% effort. Maybe some guys here, and some players, a few US meda guys that live 1500 miles away may eel they boo too much, but for those people, I have this to say; no Toronto crowd, not in any sport, have EVER booed a team that was giving a 100% effort on the playing stage. They reward effort, and they also reward success. And I have news for you "Raptor Fans" can sniff out lack luster effort like a drug dog in Miami, we know effort.

this is a hockey town, and a lot of you guys on here don't like that, you hate hockey, you hate the coverage. To bad, it is what it is. Like it or leave it, NHL players, because of the culture of the sport they grew up playing, have more character in thier pinky toes than most NBA guys will have thier whole lives. Many professional athletes in other sports have gone on record aplauding Hockey players for just that. It's a tough game, and you don't make it unless you have a tough mind, and a humble character. Perhaps it's this element that NBA fans are so upset about, as thier hero's don't have it.

Chris Bosh is Toronto's franchise guy. he has a responsibility to man up, show up, and put up. Period. If he doesn't like that, so what, then he can leave. However, th notion that he is being run out of town is a farce, you all know it. That kid has faced about 2% of what Toronto Maple Leaf captains have faced in this city, on WINNING TEAMS for crying out loud. Not one of them pised and moaned about it. They simply took blame, showed up, and busted theier asses. And when it was time to leave, they wept in the media and thanked us, us the fans, for our support, and for making them into the players they were on that day.

so.

There ya go.

Whenever some media people like this one who has personal issues have a chance to belittle Canadians, they use it. They also think that Toronto fans don't know much about basketball. I think they should see a doctor. He doesn't even know what he is talking about. Bosh played against Horford this week? LOL

Coming from the same guy that was saying that Bosh was going to get dealt to Chicago for Noah, Hughes and some toenail clippings from Luol Deng, you'll have to pardon me if I don't put much stock into what Sam Smith writes.

Raptor fans suck. The active fans like us who waste our time voicing worthless opinions. We're selfish, and we may think we're educated to the point of knowing as much as the players and coaches on the floor, but in reality we're dumb as shit. The passive fans cheer the last 6minutes, and the free t-shirts before that. Heaven forbid they get off their feet and encourage our guys when we're down by 10 in the second quarter.

When was the last time our fans decided to give the guys on the court a boost??? I've never seen it. It's all on the players to get them going. A one-sided relationship where we expect everything from the players but when a player has expectations of the fans he gets chastised for it.
Weak as shit fanbase.

we are one of the best fanbases in all the nba, so you are wrong on many accounts.

One sided?? I dont think Chris is living on the street, and i think the fans have alot to do with him putting a ball thru a hoop and getting paid millions to do it.

If Chris wants to drop me a couple mil, he can feel free to have expectations.

damn straight.
if the fans were paid to sit in the stands and cheer... we'd be the loudest, rowdiest fans in the world.
but we're not. we pay to see these guys play hard, and when they dont - we get upset. rightfully so.

no one's running anyone out of anywhere. It's just hard to be all smiles when your team has been the biggest disapointment in the NBA.

and for as poor a writer this guy is, he got that part of the article right.

I'm tired of Raptor fans, well fans in general. And you know why? Because every fucking day, I hear trade Bosh, trade Calderon, trade this guy, for some outrageous fucking idea. Fine, do that, but at some point it becomes overtly childish and boring. Yes, fandom in essence is childish, but at some measely point, logic needs to enter into the equation as well. The last Raptor game I can recall, I've heard TJ bashed for essentially playing his position and brining the ball up court, I've heard people in the middle of an exciting play tell me to sit the fuck down so they can finish their phone call....yes, annoyance to the extreme.

I'd argue that it WAS a hockey town and is slowly changing. If you were to ask the 18-34 male audience which sport they preferred, it would likely shape up to be something like this:

Soccer, basketball, hockey

Hockey is a dying sport in this country, something the majority of us refuse to acknowledge I guess. The coverage is being fed to a generation that lived, ate and breathed hockey. My question is, when that generation finally moves on and the revenues don't come in any longer, what happens then? Toronto is not a hockey city, it's a Toronto Maple Leaf city.

For the rest of the part, I agree, that hockey guys are usually more "honourable" athletes than their other brethern.

The difference though is this. Hockey players traditionally WANTED to play for either the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadians, Boston Bruins or the Red Wings and maybe even the Rangers. That's it. Being named a captain to that squad meant you were being placed in the pinnacles of history and you understood what came with that responsibility. It was an honour and you WANTED to be there.

Think about it though, if a marquee guy, a Toronto born and raised guy, played for say Nashville, and has a 90 point season, leads the team in goals scored (franchise record etc) and begins to be HAMMERED by the fan base, is booed etc. do you not think he too would bolt to a place that feels comfortable? Where in the papers and on the radio they talk about trade player X? Hell, look at the treatment Rick Nash gets in Columbus. They haven't made the playoffs, ever, and they're catering to his every demand because they know, if they fuck it up, then there goes their team for the next decade or well, ever.

The problem is, that we as a fanbase have been catered to for too long. We expect our players to show up and say THANK YOU! THANK YOU! while we tell them to go fuck themselves. How is that even a fair relationship at all? Look what we did to TJ. Did TJ once say shit about the city? No. He played hard all the time for this squad. Wanted to win. Yet we ripped him incessantly until we finally got our wish. Then, when we got our wish, we began ripping THAT guy. That's just fucked up.

The problem is that we haven't realized as a fan base, that we're small peanuts. We need to love these guys at all costs. We have no tradition in the NBA, we're still the new team on the block. People don't assosciate Toronto with winning 'ships. They assosciate it with losing, losing key players, a foreign country, high taxes and cold. The problem is, that as a city, Toronto HAD to see itself as a small time city. Well, guess what, it actually is, because really, nobody in the NBA, and this is sad to say, actually gives a damn about us yet and if that means we have to "cater" to star players then so be it.

I've come to terms with it, then again, I'm not really from Toronto.
