Question Free Agents

Do the Raptors have any shot at some of the sweet free agents out there?

I'm not too keen on our $$$ situation, I know we would have to make some serious moves and dump some salary (little landry, etc)

I would REALLY love to see Luol Deng come over here.

Is there any way we could make that happen??

Also players like Ariza, Hayward, V.Carter, S.Hawes...

I sure wish we would hurry up and sign Lowry!!

I can see some under the radar FA's, like Xavier Henry, Jodi Meeks, Baynes & Ayres from SA - one is UFA, one is RFA but I don't recall which is which, maybe an Okafor. I think that's more Masai's direction this off-season

I can see those type of additions being more probable. Sad, I would love a shot at Hayward...he's one of my favorite players right now and would be a helluva an addition to the team.

And this won't be popular but I wouldn't mind Stevenson in the slightest here

Same problem. We probably can't afford Lance's price.

Don't rule out trades. We are not fiscally capable of luring a decent free agent this year but I doubt MU will refrain from move around some pieces before the start of the season. Needless to say that might involve removing some of our current core.

Also, I expect MU decisions for this summer predicated on what happens in the draft. If ennis slips to us, would Vasquez be no longer vitally necessary like he was this season?

In the way I see it Lowry is our priority, if he is gone GV is our plan B.
I don't think we will be able to afford both of them. In this case I sure hope Ennis can fall to our hands.

I don't see who we could trade if we wanted to keep the key core that had so much chemistry together ... other than Landry but who's going to want that bum.

The Ghost of Landry Fields will never go away will it

Old fart? He is actually younger than Dwyane Wade. The only thing, he is a one-dimensional player...

Parsons is a restricted free agent, and hearing all of the possibilities of targeting lebron, melo, etc we might be able to nab him at a cheaper price than they could afford.

Would you take him back if he professed his love for Toronto and said he would take 4 million a season and a bench role?

Any scenario where you would allow him back in the fold?

I say hell no! Not even if he was willing to play for free!! and I'm serious!! lol

I'd look at signing Parsons the 1st day of free agency and make Houston immediately make up their mind on what they want to do this summer, effectively either screwing them out of getting a 3rd star, or losing Parsons for nothing.

Parsons would be a fantastic fit here, and it would allow Ross to be one of the best 6th men in the league and take the pressure off him. Plus it'd give us one of the best rotations in terms of top 7-8 players in the NBA. Getting one of the best all around SF's in the NBA would be a great start to an off season, and then we'd just need to re-sign our key restricted FA's, fill out the bench with young guys on short contracts, and we're set.

If we don't go that route, maybe look into Hayward, and if not him, then sign good veteran bench pieces to build around the current starting 5, on short term deals, much like we did with Hansbrough. Guys like VC, Marion, CJ Miles, PJ Tucker, Sefolosha, and Morrow.

In terms of bigmen, I'd love to get Jason Smith to pair with Patterson off of the bench. He's a lot better than people realize. He's got a nice jumper, plays decent defence, and knows how to play. Baynes and Udoh are two other guys I'd look at in backing up JV. The rest of the affordable center crop sucks, so those would be the guys I'd look at. Relatively young big men who have shown flashes of good play who would be a cheap get.

On a Landry Fields note, I'm going to post a thank God he's finally gone thread the day he finally is off this team. I'm not sure I've hated a player as much as him on this team since VC. The fact that some posters continue to believe the bullshit notion that he's going to reinvent himself in the off season and become a shooter and passable rotation player just makes me angry. The same posters say the same thing every off season, and they just dont learn. Landry Fields got paid, and peaced out. He may play hard when he's in the game, but it doesn't mean shit if he doesn't work on his game in the off season, and he's shown 0 improvement since his rookie year, when he was over rated because he was on a successful Knicks team.

But how? We surely won't have enough to break the bank on Lowry and sneak parsons away from Houston
