Mickeal Pietrus would be a nice fit here and so would Rojer Mason Jr.

I put this in another thread but I am reposting here as it concerns FA.....

Is it too late to put a kybosh on this O'neal trade? It looks like we are going to lose Delfino, so what would be so wrong wiith Keeping who we have this year (well buy out Baston and Graham) and make TJ the 6th man scoring option off the bench full time. Screw his ego, he has the game to fit that role perfectly.....when he wants to be he is unstopable pretty much, and if he's not starting, his suspect D on the opposing starting PG won't be nearly as apparent or costly...We have enough scoring options without O'neal, and Roy Hibbert is 7 FOOT 2 nd can block shots and rebound!!! Isn't that what this trade for O'neal is for? He is at least a big body to throw out there against Howard and Dalembert and Ilgauskas ...and gives the Raptors a true Center!!! and not a PF trying to play Center. I think Rasho is a hell of a backup Center too, he had aolt of double doubles last year when he got some minutes and showed the ability to score down low.

Combine this with losing Defino (and hopefully replacing with with Pietrus ) and we would have:

Center: Hibbert/Nesterovic
PF: Bosh/Bargnani/Humphries
SF: Pietrus/Moon/Kapono
SG: Parker/Ukic/Hassan
PG: Calderon/ Ford/Ukic

Then try to go after a quality SG, but even without that, that roster seems pretty solid to me, especially a much improved defensive starting lineup. What do you guys think?

i m sorry but the deal is almost done
i also dont like the line-up you made because of TJ Ford. he cannot be the sixth man because of his ego. he wants to be a starter and that cant happen with jose

Where to start here?

TJ has openly said he is not open to being a 6th man any longer. Recent history clearly shows he is unhappy in that role, and his play itself is a clear indicator that he is uncomfortable coming off the bench. TJ Ford, as of the last game of the '08 playoffs, stood a 0% chance of wearing a Raptors uniform next season. He wants to start somewhere, and is very capable of doing that. Keeping him around is expensive, potentially devestating to the team's mentality and pays few on court dividends.

We do not have enough scoring options without O Neal. Name one player besides Bosh who is a legitimate go to scorer.

Roy Hibbert is indeed 7'2, so you managed to get that right. Where did you get the idea he can rebound though? His 6.5 boards per game against much smaller and much less talented and experienced college players screams "elite NBA rebounder" to you? Because it screams "Eddy Curry" to me. Tall does not equal good rebounder.

The trade for O Neal addresses defense and rebounding at an elite NBA level. Like, an all star level. Not a Big East level.

I don't know what your definition of "true centre" is. Pau Gasol? Tim Duncan? Antonio McDyess/Jason Maxiell? Mehmet Okur? Those are the centres for 4 of the top 5 or 6 teams in the NBA. Boston uses a "true centre" I suppose, but the routinely play long stretches without him. A "true centre", which you seem to equate with a big man that has no game outside of the paint, is unnecessary, as long as you have someone at that 5 spot that can defend in the paint and hit the glass.

Rasho was an expiring contract. Yes, he played well occasionally last year. Does that mean we take nothing in return for him to get another year out of him? No, that would be foolish considering the offer on the table.

Assuming we get Pietrus is outrageous. There's no indication that the Raptors are the front runners (or even in the mix, unless I've missed something)

So basically, you're saying turn down the O Neal trade in favour of last year's roster + Hibbert. That's ridiculous from a basketball perspective and from a financial perspective.

That equals an even bigger regression than we had this season in Toronto. No thank you.

What about Shaun Livingston? He's still really only 21, and with the Baron signing on with the Clips, I think it would be good to take a flyer on the kid.

He's working out now, but he hasn't been cleared to play as far as I know.

Don't the Clips still have his rights though? Or was he released?

I think he's a restricted FA, but why not sign him to a 3-year deal? It'd be an "under-the-radar" move. And if he can regain his form and improve, you'd have another nice young piece to add to the nucleus.

they didn't extend a qualifying offer, therefore he's UFA. To me that's evidence enough he's done as a player, surely the clippers know his health situation better than anybody else. The fact that they didn't even bother to try to keep him from other players tells me that they have no faith he can continue his career.
