Default franchise player

i really hate that everyone keeps talking about Bosh not being a franchise player when they don't even understand the concept of it's meaning.

you want to know what it means? it means nothing but a name given to a guy they want to surround other players with. it doesn't mean since he owns that title we're not allowed to pursue players who might be considered better, nor does it mean that he should be relied upon for game winning shots.

all it is, is a face for the franchise and a scapegoat for fans who forget that there's other players on the team.

Bosh is always derailing comebacks. Call him what you want. The most talented yet unclutch player that I can recall in a long while. It's the same old tired endings.

What Bosh does (or doesn't do..) at the end of the games frustrates me, but his fourth quarter meltdowns have happened so consistently that it's on the coaches to figure something else out when it comes down to crunch time.

I know Jay is no Jerry Sloan and we definitely don't have ourselves a Deron Williams, but the Jazz's execution at the end of today's game was absolutely brilliant.

Couldn't agree more. It's gotten to the point where I am actually expecting Bosh to fail in crunch time and I have yet to be disappointed, sadly enough.

I really believe that a franchise player has to know how to handle the ball, if he doesn't then he must have a all-star pointguard or else down the crunch you cannot make clutch plays if you are on the post or the right elbow

Calling that a fourth quarter meltdown is pretty weird. He had a pretty decent fourth quarter. The game was over when Jose and Kapono were on the floor together. If Parker could have gone the whole fourth as the pg, they had a chance. Instead we got all kinds of gimmicks with Bargs playing Deron on D, and there really was nothing to be had once clutch time arrived.

There wasn't a damn thing brilliant about the Jazz's execution at the end. It was simply taking advantage of mismatches that we could not take away from them. You're not going to find a coach or a franchise player that is going to be able to overcome that kind of disadvantage.

It doesn't excuse Bosh's turnovers and missed shots. He had the ball in his hands and did not deliver offensively. He had his chances. You can't say he didn't

Okay, but the Jazz manufactured those mismatches for the sole purpose of taking advantage of them; they threw some pick and rolls at us, ran guys off screens, and pretty much caught the defense with our heads in our asses. What did we run? Ugly isolations for Chris Bosh.

The dude was being triple-teamed on a couple of isos. And on one occassion he did deliver, but please forget that conveniently. He then got an assist on a nice pass to Graham for a dunk. Turnovers? One turnover qualifies as plural? The meltdown seems to be with the fans more than anything else.

They manufactured nothing. We had Bargnani on their pg. We fucking gave them that. Nobody had to create it. And had Jose been on Deron, things would have been that much worse. But it's Bosh's fault.

I'm not surprised Bargs ended up on Deron at all. That's the type of play that's been happening all year on the defensive end. They are utterly clueless out there half the time. How many times does it have to happen before they understand what they're doing wrong?
What a stupid basketball team.

If he's triple teamed he should find the the two guys who are wide open instead of forcing it. Look, the dude needs to find the door. He's not cutting it in Toronto. I'm bored with it.

Who is he going to find? No one is cutting to the basket, everyone is standing behind the three point line and Jazz packed it in the lane taking away the drive. The guy had no help. If Bosh goes, who is going to takeover? Bargs? Goodluck being successful that.

You have a point. It's just not a very good team. Too many passengers and not enough drivers.

i'd say that given the real disadvantages with the personnel on this team, they did very well today, and through much of the losing streak. I don't get the venom. I don't even get the extreme desire for a W - because a W just doesn't matter.

The frontcourt of this team looks very nice right now. The team as a whole is doing some really good things, and they have to in order to stay in any of these games. They simply need more depth and a complete upgrade in the backcourt, particularly in terms of defense. How the guys up front end up taking all the abuse from the fans truly mystifies me.

I took this from Wiki, but it actually makes sense to me.

Quote:
Franchise Player is a modern term used in sports to describe an athlete who is not simply the best player on their team, but a player that the team can build their franchise around for the foreseeable future. The misnomer that a franchise player is only "the best player on a team" disregards the fact that an inordinately bad team will undoubtedly still employ a player with superior skills, relative to his team. However, such a player could be so bad in comparison to players at-large that labeling such a player as a franchise player would be inappropriate. It is an elite status
Say what yo will, but I don't think Bosh is a franchise player, I think Carter was close, but fell short. There are only a few that make that grade. Yo won't win a championship unless you have one either.
