Foxsports: NBA's top 10 shooters

8) Jose Calderon, PG, Toronto Raptors
2008-09 stats: 49.7 FG%, 98.1 FT%, 40.6 3PT%
No, that's not a misprint. Calderon really did make 151 of 154 free throws last season, an NBA record for accuracy, including 87 straight to start the season the second-longest streak in league history. A below-average athlete and defender for an NBA point guard, the Spaniard survives by being fundamentally sound. He doesn't turn the ball over, and he doesn't miss open shots.

I take it Chris Paul was excluded due to his limited range?

Jose Calderon, last season, was the only player this year to shoot 90% or better from the line, 50% from the field and >40% from 3 pt line.

Only Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Larry Bird, Reggie Miller, and Mark Price have ever accomplished this in the history of the NBA. Not bad company.

Shit, his streak was the only thing talked about in a positive light for the most part after Christmas (other then Bargnani).

I would argue Jose is a top 3 shooter in the league when 100% healthy and he can shoot of the dribble.

Cheers

With his feet set and a bit of space Jose is top three.

But any shot, any time under any pressure.

Kobe
Ray Allen
Dirk

bargnani is listed as coming in close to the top 10, along with carmelo, granger, kevin martin or chauncey billups.

Among active players? If so I would agree. But when hes wide open or given some space to get his shot up cleanly that I would put him ahead of kobe and dirk. Off the pick and roll with bosh, the man does not miss!

Gordon is the 5th best shooter in the league, then Beli isn't far off.

Gordon 45FG% - 41 3PT% - 86FT%

Belinelli 44FG% -40 3PT%- 77FT%

If he can get his FT% up over 80%, he's right there. The only major difference is MPG.

BTW, looking at Ben Gordon's numbers and look at Jose's and tell me who should be #5?

Jose 49FG%- 40 3PT%- 98FT%

Difference is teams have to key in on Gordon as hes a primary scoring option on offence whereas Belinelli is a role player. You put Belinelli in Gordons shoes and he shoots under 40 percent with the extra attention.

People who say the midrange game is a lost art dont understand how zone defence shut a lot of it down. Its not that no one can shoot midrange anymore, its that its hard to get a shot in the midrange because of the zone defences and teams being able to load up on sides and shut down post ups and pick and roll plays with more then 2 guys covering the ball. Even if you pump fake into a midrange shot nowadays its extremely easy for the defence to get to you because no one is playing their own man theyre moreso playing the area and where the ball is.

The better players still have the midrange game down like Kobe Wade Durant KG Duncan etc etc, but with the role players on catch and shoot type plays, its a lot harder to catch and shoot midrange now because of the lack of space and because defenders dont have to commit to either doubling or playing man to man. When you double you have a lot more space to shoot on a kickout, but in todays game you can just sag on the post player and run back on a kickout with ease with no penalty obviously because of the zone D, so now obviously the 3 pt shot is a must because theres a lot more ground to make up on the close out.

And also, if Jose was put in as many isolation situations as Gordon he wouldnt be anywhere near the numbers he is with how he plays. Not that anyone would want Jose isoing but just saying. Gordons makes on contested shots is a lot better obviously, and Gordon is a player you can give it to in crunchtime and he can create for himself, something Jose cant do. I'd still take Jose on my team over BG most of the time but I see where the writer is coming from in terms of his explanation.

Ray Allen has the most beautiful shot I've ever seen. Watching him shoot is pure joy. Check his image in the link.
