Default Former Raps GM Grunwald was offered Nash and Dirk

Former Raps GM Glen Grunwald turned down a trade of Dirk Nowitzski and Steve Nash for Antonio Davis and Vince Carter as per John Shannon.

Watch: Raptors could have had Nash, Dirk - sportsnet.ca

Not sure if a lot of GMs would have done that.

For those few who remember the old ESPN board - that was the trade I've advocated at the peak of Vinsanity, after T-Mac left, and has been heavily ridiculed for.

VC was the franchise player who put toronto on the map, there was no way he'd trade him.

well, in hindsight that seems like a bonehead move

At the time, not so much. No sane person would have seen 3 MVPs between those two. And frankly, chances are that they wouldn't have won them if paired together.

Would you trade Vince at his peak for two soft Euros

Well...

My reasoning back then was based on two facts:

1. Vince was a single super-star at the time when we were either old or bad or both at multiple positions.

2. Nash was a Canadian star, happy to play at home. Dirk was a rising international star, with much higher chances of sticking long-term in Toronto.

we also fail to remember the fact that VC himself started playing ball like a soft euro after he started getting the jumpers knee issues
does the interview say when the trade offer was given?

Deal was offered after the 2000-01 season, that was the year the Raptors were 1 shot away from the conference finals. Hardly the time to completely blow up the team. Nash also is 3 years older than Vince and at the time had his first season with more than 10 ppg and more than 5.5 apg. Antonio Davis just had a playoff where he averaged 16 ppg and 11 rpg.

The deal looks bad now, but at the time if the Raptors made that deal I believe there is a strong possibility that the Raptors end up moving to another city.
