Pathetic playcall imo.

For the record i liked how Jose played tonight prior to that last play.
"OK" tonight? ... how hard is it for you to say he out coached Larry Drew..

Atlanta's talent beat us... not their coaching or defence...

His Zone is what kept us in the game? ... just "OKAY tonight BEFORE the last play"? come on...

Think of Jose as a quarterback on that final possession, with multiple passing options. He saw a gap and decided to forgo his route check and run for the first down. Way she goes. Unless, Triano just said, "Jose, win the game. Maybe a lay up?". Credit Horford for good D.
Problem is Jose tried to dive into the endzone instead of hitting a pullup J.

Nobody wants to see a pullup J in that spot.... the goal was to get to the line.... It should have been Barbosa or DD.... period... they only needed one point.

On a final play? No way. You're asking for trouble if the goal is counting on refs.

It was hardly Atlanta's talent, it was inexperience. Namely Amir Johnson's and DDR fouls which were all at crucial moments. Execution on defense is what lost this game. You can blame the Refs and the coach, but If your clubbing people at the end of a shot clock or throw people to the floor behind the three point line, you going to lose close games.

I am gonna give my 2 cents worth now......

The team played very well. They played as a team, and some highlights were def Bargnani and Barbosa.
Calderon played very good as well. The last call with Calderon was legit. There was no foul. They just made a crucial mistake going into the last few seconds, along with a stupid mistake by amir for the offensive foul.

I have to give credit to triano for switching to zone and taking control of the game. If it werent for the Hawk 3 pointers the game would have been much different.

All in All.....The game was very7 enjoyable to watch.

I'm kind of surprised how hard people are taking this loss.

It was a hard fought game and we fell just short. I was certain it was going to be blow out.

It's a myriad of things that contributed to the loss - giving up too many second chance points, errors in critical moments in the game, a bit of bad luck, bad calls, etc. All in all I am pleased with the effort and think this game is more encouraging than anything.

The only thing that irks me is that DeRozan had 6 or 7 shots in the first quarter and then only took 4 the rest of the way.

I kind of agree... what makes it harder for me is that we are generally blown out by ATL so it would have just been great to have a win over them.... yeah we fell just short, but to have such controversy over the final 2 minutes against a team that usually needs zero help against us just stings a little.

As for DD, Barbosa took his touches... it happens. He got hot and DD just had his hands full on the defensive side too. I'd say it's an exception to the norm that won't often be the case going forward.

The reason DeMar wasn't getting touches is because we kept giving the ball to Barbosa.

Barbosa might have kept us in the game, but then we didn't give it to him on the crucial play.

I agree there's no reason to panic, but it's frustrating when we do things that don't make sense. Especially our coaches. Youngest team, etc. has a lot of built in excuses, but our coaches shouldn't be excused for their calls.

Triano and the coaching staff should be praised for finally getting the Raptors to be competiitive with the Hawks... something that hasn't been the case in a long long time.

Just saying.

We're 9-9 i believe the last 5 years vs Atlanta. I find we play them well, especially at home. In Atlanta it's been a disaster the last few years including a 146-115 ennihilation last season under Triano.

Zone has been preached by many here before yesterday as one of the better ways to mask our players' defensive deficiencies and the coaching staff has to be commended for actually sticking with it throughout the second half.

The Raps were beaten because:

1. They have fouled 3-point shooters twice in the fourth.
2. Crawford and Bibby made two key tough contested threes. The Crawford one was especially of the kind where you go: "Well, it couldn't have been defended any better"
3. Refs blew the whistle when they shouldn't have on Amir's screen and swallowed the whistles on Jose's drive, although I have looked at it a number of times on replays and Horford did a great job there. Still, a star would have gotten the call.

How is any of the above Triano's fault?

P.S. As many here know, I am not the biggest fan of our coaching staff, to put it mildly.

We lost 96-78 to them already at home in November. They crushed us in Atlanta last year and by 22 in Toronto last fall. We won a tight one in the spring at the ACC, but overall we're 2-8 the last three and a half years against them.

Thank you AC for doing that homework for me.... Atlanta has manhandled us in recent history.

Hence why it would have been nice to pull out that win... but it's one game.

I'm definitely enjoying watching this year's team much more than the last couple of years... and I see growth in the coaching staff too. Not just in game coaching, but through player development as well.

Really? WTF was i looking at then? lol

So how has Jay got us competivive vs Atlanta then? 31pt loss last season, 22pt loss last season and an 18pt loss earlier this season vs Atlanta all under Triano.

Just double checked our record the last 3.5 years:

07-08 (2-1 vs Atlanta)
08-09 (1-3 vs Atlanta)
09-10 (1-3 vs Atlanta)
10-11 (0-2 vs Atlanta)

So 4-9 actually, i was way off. My bad.

I'm just saying he got us to a point that we were competitive with Atl in last night's game.... where generally there was a 78% likelihood that we were going to be blown out going into it.

I am a firm believer that changing a culture takes time, chemistry takes time, coaching takes time.... The Raptors had plenty of bad habits in recent years on both sides of the ball. I think alot of the bad habits on offense are being addressed, including role definition and shot allocation... and defensively they seem to be running a good zone D while at least not seemingly getting blown out as often.

It was one game... but as Acie illustrated, the last three years felt like ten against ATL.

what the fuck?

Triano coached a excellent game...

and they did exactly what they wanted... get the switch and have Jose drive on a Big and either get fouled or score (and maybe a +1)...

Also the last play of the game with 1 second left was a excellent play call, quick screen by Derozen got Bargs free with 1 FUCKING SECOND LEFT and Bargs a clean look that almost went in...

Lorddddd
THIS.

Seriously... that was one of the better games that I've seen from the Raps in a while considering the fact that ATL almost always owns us.

Triano did an excellent job. Guys got open for shot after shot in the 4th.

We got beat by a lucky Bibby 3 and a foolish foul by DD.

I was pretty pleased with Jose's D too for the most part... he certainly is't looking like a "weak link" anymore...

Jeff! ATL is a GOOD team.

We're a shit one.. and have been for some time.

They were the absolute WORST matchup for us over the past 4-5 seasons because of their athleticism and pace.

WTF did you want Triano to do exactly???
