Raptors Ford/Simmons on Val, Nash, Ross

Saw this posted as a recap on RealGm, nice to see ESPN talking Raptors ball

Quote:
Lots of tidbits on toronto in June 29th BS Report if anyone is interested in listening. The Raptors rarely ever get mentioned in US media, but this BS Report is chalk full of Raptors Talk.

Here's a recap:

On Terrence Ross
- Simmons and Ford agree that Terrence Ross was a reach at 8. Ford says "not a massive reach"
- They both like Ross, but feel that the Raptors panicked when Waiters, Lillard and Barnes were off the board. Had to take the guy they liked most
- Ross is the best shooting 2 guard in the draft, very athletic, runs the floor extremely well and can spread the floor
- Ross lacks mid-range game, can't create for himself

On Valanciunas
- Ford insists that Jonas V. would be the 2nd pick in this years draft, dominated US college players last summer, legit center, franchise player
- Should've went 2nd in 2011 draft
- All the teams were after him, his agent wanted him to get drafted by Toronto, gave Cleveland the run around regarding his buyout
- Cleveland panicked and took Thompson (advanced analytics pick), which is why they passed on Thomas Robinson in 2012 draft
- Simmons and Ford agree that Valanciunas/Robinson is much better duo than Thompson/Waiters

On Nash
- If Nash signs with the Raptors, makes the Ross pick a better fit, spaces the floor with more shooters and athletic wings
- Both Simmons and Ford were adamant that Nash is the perfect free agent acquisition for the raps
- Nash would have a huge impact on toronto (improve culture, help Toronto's young players, sell out the ACC, International appeal)
- Toronto can outbid every other team for Nash
- Can offer Nash front office job once he chooses to retire (coach, gm, president)
- Brooklyn is a dark horse for Nash (Nash loves NYC, Brooklyn has money and might lose Deron and have no marquee player to sell to fans)
- Simmons doesn't think Nash will chase a ring (would've left Phx earlier if that were the case)

This is the probably the most Toronto talk that I've ever came across on ESPN ever.

Simmons threw out the possibility of a Bargnani for Pau Gasol swap. Thinks that Toronto could compete in the east with that move.

Simmons butchers Bargnani's name.

That's about it.

Another mention of Bargnani for Pau. That would make me pretty happy. Nash and Pau would be pretty sweet, and would stand a chance of establishing a culture that could then keep rolling well into the future if they could land another strong pg in the interim.

Bargs for Gasol, nooooway

Bargs gives you more offensive versatility, and a big mismatch for allot of teams..if he can play like he did last year before the injury, watchout

Jonas and Bargs compliment eachout

Pau for Bargs trade isn't that great.

Pau is much better as an established secondary option as opposed to a primary option.

Also, his contract is HORRIBLE. 18+ million each year.

Bargnani is young, improving, and his contract is much better.

Yes you do because Artest is washed up. We can get more for Calderon than Artest.

The Lakers should not be a trading partner. They have nothing to offer us that I'd be interested in unless it was a steal on our side.

i don't think people are disagreeing on that, but most of us would still take Bargs because he is a better fit for this team and compliments JV more, and Bargs still has potential to be better than pau going forward, except maybe in the rebounding department

of course, rebounding doesn't matter.

you honestly think Bargs will be even near Pau defensively? We've also heard so much about Bargs and how good a passer he is but his apg doesn't reflect that. Truth is, we need a Prime Marion-esque SF if we pan on playing Bargs, with a rookie C to boot.
