Ford: Nobody knows what Ujiri's intentions are

Marc (Montreal)Hey Chad, you haven't answered a Raptors question all year long. How long do you think until Masai blows it up? It's ugly as hell watching DeRozan and Gay take turns bricking 19-footers, and every single Andrew Wiggins game is being broadcast nationally in Canada.

Chad Ford (1:33 PM)I don't know. Masai is keeping his cards pretty close to the vest. He's been active on the phones according to other GMs, but he isn't letting on whether he's looking to blow the team up or to make a push for the playoffs. I've heard mixed responses from other GMs who have dealt with him. I do know he loves Wiggins and the fit in Toronto is so obvious -- that seems like the right direction. But remember, the best he can get is a 25 percent chance at the No. 1 pick. There's no guarantee he can land Wiggins and while Jabari, Exum (who Masai is also a huge fan of) or Randle would be prizes too ... they might be a disappointment to Raptors fans.

No brainer. We fucking won! Draft lottery here we come! :mu:

d00little 11-18-2013 03:34 PM

Isn't it obvious. Keeping Rudy and Kyle on the team for the entire season is the best way to improve our seeding for the draft lottery. :cookie:

DD is as much a tank commander on this team as anyone else

niggles 11-18-2013 03:50 PM

Whatever Ujiri does, it had better be impactful. I don't think the fan base is inclined to be patient if they feel that it's just, same shit, different day.

Chiggmo 11-18-2013 03:52 PM

I've said it a few times in random threads, but I honestly thing this is a real bad move, I understand MU wanting to see what he had in the team coming into the season and it being a new job/team for him. But it was the wrong movie IMO.

Personally I feel he should of made the decision to gut the team and tank before the season began, or work on improving it right away.

I myself am a tank supporter, but regardless of that I feel his only real move now is to try and improve the team, or somehow stock #1 picks for this year (which I see as being unlikely) Its too late to try and start tanking and expecting good results from it (unless we lost every game from here on out).

With this team were going to stay around or slightly below .500, resulting in more pointless treadmilling.

DonMughal 11-18-2013 03:53 PM

Are these Exum or Randle players better than or are going to be much better than our current best players? That's what I want to know. Otherwise it would make tanking a difficult decision. If they are then I'm all for it.

Tommy C 11-18-2013 04:04 PM

I guess we know tanking comes with a risk, you may suck for a few years and then you go back on the treadmill road. I don’t think we predict now how we will be in 3-4 years from now if we were to take the tank path. This team is seriously depressing…

rockthetdot 11-18-2013 04:19 PM

If GMs are thinking that Masai could go both ways then there is a good chance that he wants to tank but is keeping them guessing by throwing hypothetical trades out there. He's not going to call other GMs and say, "hey, we're tanking, what would you give me for Rudy Gay or DeMar DeShmozan?"

You're in tank nation aren't you? lol

LX 11-18-2013 04:24 PM

Does it matter? He's doing his job and not looking for the easy route that anyone could manage. If he thought his job was just to make the team as shitty as possible and let the ping pong balls all but decide what course to take, then that would be clearer and easier to see, but not very satisfying from my viewpoint.

rockthetdot 11-18-2013 04:31 PM

I'm just trying to view the situation from a logical standpoint. As a fan, I just want a direction, or better yet, a defined goal to cheer for.

Well, players don't wanna tank. No one likes to be a loser, and the GM isn't gonna say we decided to tank... What do you want MU to do? He isn't gonna stay idle and my guess that a trade will take place which will give us a clue what's in the pipeline.

LX 11-18-2013 06:01 PM

He's going to try to make the team better over time, step by step, one way or another. That's his job. The sales routine that the teacher's pension fund looked for as a means to just sell seats is done.

box92 11-18-2013 06:05 PM

I think doing this helps players trade value not drop. Imo Asik's value has dropped considerably after everyone knowing the rockets are going to trade him

agreed.... and it's nice to hear how he's very busy and active, especially on players like Asik and also covets the top draft prospects too.... he's clearly looking at the whole picture and that has to be a refreshing change.

I honestly believe as rookies Jabari Parker and Randle would both be better than Rudy is now, let alone in the future, especially since DC will very very likely not be here next year and our coach would probably play a top 5 pick more than 20 mpg.

Exum is a more risky pick IMO but he's still very likely to be better than our best guys.

LOG 11-18-2013 07:01 PM

That's my top 10 if draft would be today
1. Wiggins
2. Parker
3. Exum
4.Smart
5. Embid
6. Gordon
7. Randle
8. Harrison
9. Harris
10. Selden

KoolAid 11-18-2013 07:21 PM

IMO Selden is a big sleeper, been saying this for a while. Super athletic combo guard, could sneak into top 5.

MrClutch 11-18-2013 07:53 PM

Im just wondering if Masai is pondering what he will do with our 2nd round picks as I just realized we have an additional from the James Johnson trade, which if the season ended today, would net us 3 decent players in a talented draft
