do I look like some fortune teller?

How about they will become all-stars on a cheaper contract? Perhaps all-star status is better than these fools we call swingmen.

even if they become near all-stars on rookie contracts.... much better than these fools!

Taking a knee-jerk reaction to any situation is a recipe to disaster. For far too long this franchise took a reactionary stance. When we needed to get bigger, we traded for J.O.; when we lost Bosh we went out in the press and lambasted the guy etc.

Instead, what we have now, is a guy who understands the value of what I like to call, taking a breath. I'd argue, there very much is a core here that serves as the foundation of a good team. Right away I'd list:

Hansborough
Amir
JV
Ross
One of DeRozan/Gay

We're not starting with a blank slate here. There are good pieces here. Yeah, it would be easy to just trade everyone and say, we'll start with Wiggins (or whoever) but you're going to have to give up some assets as well.

What I see Ujiri doing is simply determining, who is a part of that overall core and what do they bring to the table. The last thing I think anyone wants to see, after five years of simply making reactionary trades and moves, is more knee-jerk reaction.

Again, this is a bit of breath of fresh air.

Ujiri's interview summary:
Quote:
Trades, are the teams active?
Teams are going to start slow, injuries that's nature of the league. Teams are not calling to say ''would you trade this for that'' but it's coming, we will listen.

Q: tanking: can it be successful strategy
A: I do think there is a direction you can go, one of the better ways is to build is through the draft. If that's the route some teams want to take, I completely understand seeing future that way.

Q: How would you classify this draft

Been going to a lot of college games, that's all I have to say.

This is not actual word by word conversation, just a summary of what they were talking about.

He also said December 15th is a day that things start getting more active since players that were signed in tge summer could be moved. He also said Casey will stay until the end of the season. He doesn't think firing a coach in december/January accomplishes anything. He said he will give him the season and evaluate the growth of the team.

So much for another Executive of the Year. Can't understand why he would lock himself into a position that limits his flexibilty. Is Colangelo writing his lines for him?

That could be plausible, if the fans didn't end up so disgusted at the product on the court that they abandoned the team and the ratings plummeted. Penny wise and pound foolish. Coach's salary isn't a big cost of business, and there isn't even a year left on his contract. Plus if he makes player moves during the season, those players will have to play under Casey. Yech.

He's going to sit back and watch this ship sink, then his decision can't possibly be challenged. He may fire him sooner, but there is no rush until something happens. No coach is coming in and saving this train wreck.

No mixing analogy's. Is it a sinking ship or a train wreck? The fans need to know if they have to brace themselves for collision, or grab the life preservers and hope the life boats have been manned.

What is limiting his flexibility? I'd argue it's our fan base that limits his flexibility or well perceived flexibility.

I don't see how a fan base could limit his flexibility as a coach. We can complain, but why would he coach based on a fan base's opinions?

Masai could have chosen to " non-answer" about Casey, which would have let him keep Casey in place till the end of the season, or make a move in-season and not limit what he might do.

This team is not competing for shit Casey or no Casey. Why not give him the year rather than having an interim coach.

The operative words here are "this team". If Masai makes player moves, which I believe is a reasonable expectation, do you really want them in Casey's hands?

Plus, there is nothing to say that a new hire has to be "interim", see SVG,Hollins,Karl etc.

a non-answer doesn't inspire any sort of positive vibe, and this team doesn't need more swirling speculation.... it will come, and Ujiri isn't tied to his answer.... things change and he knows how to buy more time.

And saying Casey will be here for the full season inspires a positive vibe?
