Default Fixxxer's questions

So I've been on this forum for a few years...lurking, contributing whatever, but only been a Raptors fan for 3 years. Bosh's last year was the first year I watched and loved it. Can't really explain why...just became a die hard Raps fan

I've amassed a few questions that i've been curious about and never could find the answers to. Maybe some people here can shed some light on them. They are Raptors related so this seems like the best place to post them

1) What was the buzz around the 2006 draft? Did everyone assume Bargs would go #1? Like AD is these days? What was the draft reaction like?

2) What was the reaction when Bosh was selected? Was it expected or did Raps fans want D-Wade?

3) This one isn't from days gone by, but I heard talk that the Spurs offered us Tony Parker during the 2012 draft. Was it for the #5 pick or for JV himself? Anyone know?

4) What was the inspiration behind the uniform change? Like changing the colour scheme from Purple to Red?

I think thats it for now....maybe i'll add more later

Anyone else can add generic Raptors questions too that you've been curious about

1. There was really no clear cut 1st pick, but we didn't need a pf so we didn't get Aldridge. All the other stars out of that draft were never projected to be what they are now, so Andrea wasn't a bad pick at all. It's hard to pass on a big with such a shooting stroke especially when no one else in the draft was put ahead of him anyway.

2. I think people were happy because we needed a big to compliment VC, and we got it. I'm not sure though, don't remember. That would have been my reaction. Not sure we wanted Wade with VC here.

3. It must have been the possibility of getting Valanciunas that intrigued the Spurs, but Raps wanted Jonas more than Parker.

4. I'm sure it was to wash away the VC era, just to make a change and mark a new era.

Keep posting brother.

There was a few players in the mix for the first pick in 06

In 03 not only was Bosh something of a consensus pick, Riley wanted him on the Heat.

Bargs was a sexy pick, hailed as - according to some - a bigger, better Dirk, who had just weeks earlier led his team to within a couple games of the championship.

There was also an awful lot of people questioning his credentials as a 1st pick up against what was felt to be more verifiable with NCAA talent. I remember this because I felt it was pretty dumb.

Yup I thought LA should have been the pick but what ever...
We could have been the Blazers right now.

anybody see Bargs when he was drafted, he looked like a boy instead of how he looks now, its not surprising looking back that he wasn't successful in first few years in the league even though his first year and third year were solid

i'm not surprised that he is a late bloomer in basketball

in the 06 draft, it was between Gay, Bargs, Roy

I think Bosh was a consensus since the team already had VC and MoPete at the 2/3 positions

Not sure about JV for Parker

Purple to red happened because of the grizzlies left Canada and the Raptors became "Canada's team"

and yet Roy went 6th, Gay 8th... I don't believe you're recalling it correctly. Aldridge, Bargnani, Tyrus Thomas and Adam Morrison were getting alot of the publicity and attention. Gay was the consensus upside pick but was extramely raw and was viewed as a guy that could bust or be the longterm steal.

Some did question Bargnani's merit as a number one pick, as LX has stated, but very few wholeheartedly supported Aldridge or anybody else as a number one selection either. Furthermore, looking back, it's unreal how weak that class was and let's not forget Sheldon Williams went before Roy and Foye before Gay let alone we all remember Tyrus and Ammo.

Bargnani is slammed for being the number one selection but out of the lottery only 2 players are better picks than him right now. That's not terriible, it's actually pretty good.

IIRC we didn't work anyone else out in 06, BC just wanted to pick Bargs . Which is pretty sad cos Bargs was a terrible fit beside bosh. Smh at this loser gm Colangelo

That's just untrue. We worked out many players that year, as we do every year. Maybe you could make a case that he was focused too much on AB as his pick, but you can't say BC has ever not done his draft research thoroughly. In every year it's no coincidence that he's usually pegged 3 or 4 prospects as in the mix at our picks.

bosh wasn't a consensus pick, we wanted a "big" but there were other names in the mix and VC actually didn't like the Bosh pick because he thought Bosh wasn't big enough, he wanted someone that was a bigger body center type

you mean the team that won 5 more games than us? That's a pretty lofty standard you're reaching for

I'm talking about, we could have been the team with LA, Roy & god forbid Oden.
I wasn't talking about wins & losses.

carter wanted us to trade the pick for an already established player that could help him win games and get back into the playoffs.

from what i remember, Bosh was definitely the consensus fourth pick of the draft.

how could we be that, we only had one pick that year, if we got LA, we would have missed on Roy. And we won 47 games the next year, so that means no oden either. We'd have had two PFs in Bosh and LA and since they were playing the same position, we'd have had to force one of them to play C and thus make him unhappy.

Maybe it was just me thinking that Gay would have been the best fit for the Raptors at that particular time
