As Fancy said, this team is too talented to tank. Add to that what has been said by MU/TL, we are not about to tank. And to properly tank you need to win 20 or less games....when was the last time we lost that much? I believe it was 1997-98?

not too talented... one trade can change that in an instant.

If you have listened to MU at all, you're not going to see a Rudy Gay + ?? salary dump for scraps and a couple picks.

Fair enough. I'm seeing the same team as last year, with the same issues. One game means little, but I'm commenting after one game, so that's an obvious caviat.

Against that level of competition, I expected better, even early in preseason.

My concern is not whether the team can tank as is - my concern is whether the team will win too many games in the two-month evaluation period such that the tank is scuttled IF that path is chosen. And based on last night's game, I'm not concerned. I may become more concerned as the preseason wears on, but for now I expect something along the lines of .350-.400 basketball with this team, especially in the early tough schedule, so come mid-December when a decision should be made on the season, the tank option should still be viable at that point.

If you have listened to MU at all, then you'd know that anything you heard from MU when listening to him in no way indicates what he actually might do.

"can't teach winning by losing", he also said that they want to get good quickly and that they want to be good by 2015-16. Doesn't sound like a tear down imo. And a true tank would have to be a tear down, no?

Yes. He said all of that. Does that preclude any particular path? No.

Would you really be surprised if it turned out that a GM a) said something he didn't mean or b) changed his mind or c) hid his true intentions especially when it comes to tanking?

Everything he's said indicates that what he will do will depend on what the team does. If the team performs as I expect (.350-.400 basketball over the first 2 months) would you really be shocked to see a tear-down?

To me it precludes a total blow up/proper tank. But that is just how I see it.

I understand. You believe what Ujiri says. I don't, having seen the way GM's talk to the public. General rule - talk is not predictive of action. Especially with GM's.

^ I'm pretty sure Masai has even said himself what he says to the media is not necessarily true.

I've seen you staunchly defend Bargs in the past.

Although both had terrible attitudes, Vince was immensely more talented and a more productive player. Same situation but very different players in terms of impact.

Him continuing to be on the roster just wasn't justified and MU took what he could. It would have been nice to have an objective GM before who knew how to sell high but oh well.

Really? Trying to motivate him again? That would've been quite counter productive to the team and a true slap in the face to the other players on the squad and every respectable fan out there.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Bargs (and his time in TO) equals the definition above in case you couldn't tell.

Didn't we already try this? Oh yeah, we did.

If you're not happy with what we got in that trade where we sent out a lazy, unmotivated pile of shit and actually got cap flexibility and a 1st round pick, then you're the one that needs to check himself.

The VC trade was shit. Comparing it to the Bargnani trade is stupid because you can't relate the two, the situations were much different, and their perceived value and potential was a lot different too, let alone their past success as players.
