Default The final stretch. Race to the Playoffs Pt.3

So the last thread kind of died out, as I stopped updating it. I got really busy in school. I am going to keep this one up to date, and this thread will also include teams that are close to us in the standings, and the games they have coming up as well. The Third seed is going to be what we shoot for, seeing how 1st and 2nd are out of reach, so the 3rd seed will act as the 0, and the teams below will be Games behind for the 3rd seed.

Lets get that 3rd seed!!!

Standing:

3. Toronto 45-32 -----> 0
4. Chicago 45-32 -----> 0 Games Behind
5. Brooklyn 43-34 -----> 2 Games Behind
6. Washington 40-37 -----> 5 Games Behind

I see 13-15 wins, my prediction Raptors will end up with ~47-35 record ,which will sure be enough for the 4th place in the east. Nets may finish finish strong and Bulls are playing great ball right now. If we'll finish 3rd it's most likely we'll have to play Wizards in the 1st round. If 4th it will probably be Chicago or Brooklyn.

I'd rather play Washington or Brooklyn in the first round.

Chicago will kill this team in a first round match up.

We will lose in 5 or 6 if we play the bulls imo. Scared of the Nets as well, so much playoff experience there, and the pace is much slower. The only good thing is their coach is a rookie. I feel the Wizards will be the best team to play. If ross is healthy, I think he can shut down wall. That last game we lost, I feel it was because ross got hurt

Does anyone realize how the wiz have been playing since they got Gortat and Andre Miller? Guess not.

really, really doubt that. Probably the toughest opponent, but all games will be hard fought and close.

I'm actually not decided between chicago and charlotte, I'm more afraid of the bobcats because we have no answer for Al Jefferson and in the playoffs, the post game is even more important.

The thing about the bulls is that they are, have been for a while, playing at 100% playoff intensity, so their game may not see an uptick in april. We, on the other hand, have rarely played a full game at that level. Second advantage for us is that our starters will be way more rested than theirs, TT is running them in the ground, in another 6 weeks they will be very, very tired. Casey is not that great either in that respect, but we should be in better shape.

The Bulls will indeed be tired. They have a lot of back to backs and tough opponents to finish off. But they could also possibly rest some guys - they get a four day break with a little more than a week left, with some easier games to finish the schedule.

oops forgot about atl.

But I think if we can get a couple game lead heading into april, we need to give our starters some rest. Sometimes they are playing 40 min games.

Agreed. And those are not guys who are still learning the game and playoffs.

I want the Bulls. We tear them apart in a play-off series. I have no idea why is everyone rating them so high?

In their last 10 games they had 3 good wins, one was against us, a two point victory on a second night of back to back after they had five days of rest, the other two against GSW at home and Mavs on the road. The rest, LAL, Atlanta twice, Denver, NYK. In February, they also lost to the Kings by 30!!! They also managed to lose a game against the Bucks!

I trust Casey would prepare the team for the Bulls to the point we embarrass them in at least one game.

I could be wrong, but the only games they lost were when butler was injured
they are so thin, that any injury can wreck them. They also destroyed GSW and their defense is top in the league, which is so critical in the playoffs. They will also get love from the refs against us, and TT is a great coach - I wouldn't underestimate them.

The love from the refs is the only thin that could turn the series in their favor. If they call it consistently and evenly, we are wining. If they let them be rough on us while calling touch fouls against us, like in that last game, well...it is going to be tough. And we still only lost by two.

And Butler or no Butler, they are not as good as everyone is saying right now. They are 9-1 in their last 10 mostly due to schedule.

What scares me about the Bulls is their heart. And just how good Noah is playing. I questioned whether he should be an all-star this season due to his slow start, but maybe that was only because of the high bar he can set for himself, and which he is getting over now. They are just a tough out. There is something to be said about the calls, but I think there is more to them than just that, and the way they play helps them get away with shit. I do think the Raptors could and should be able to match that and get an even whistle though if they had the established reputation and might get unfairly penalized in that sense.

What gives me confidence against the Bulls is they are not really good on offense and they have to get the scoring from everyone from all over the floor.
We are a solid defensive team and Casey has shown time and time again that he can come up with specific schemes against different types of teams to take out an important player or whole part of their game or both.
One recent example of this were the games against the Wizards where we took Beal out of the game from the start and took out their 3pt shooting. Casey then focused on Wall who was held to just three second half points after dropping 19 in the first.
In the 3 OTs loss to Wizards, we had an injury to Ross so we couldn't have anyone disrupt and slow down Wall and the Wizards came in ready to score in the paint as much as possible. It still went to 3 OTs....

Another thing is running. In the last game against the Bulls, Casey tried to get the team to run more as it was our clear advantage. It was difficult to pull off since it was a second game of back to back, very little time to prepare for that kind of "switch" as we are also predominantly a half-court team. In a play-off series, our team can prepare for that and try and get a few fast-break points and increase the pressure on the Bulls. We have the athleticism and the skills to do it. It is also one of the things that I'd love for Casey to add to the team next season, just a little bit of tendency to run at times and try to get some easy points.

Also, about hearth...don't underestimate us. When was the last game you remember that the Raptors were not in it? Our team fights, our guys step up, there is always somebody.

I know, I'm being a huge homer, but the Bulls don't scare me one bit. The Nets on the other hand.....don't want to play them.

Good point about the back to back last time out. It would definitely be interesting to see us completely prepared against them. And you're right about their offense, except that it has been rolling really well of late. I really don't expect that to continue long term, but it still sort of scares me, particularly Noah's role in getting everyone involved. In a seven game series though, I certainly wouldn't hand it to them or count out the fight on the part of the Raptors.

The Nets don't scare me. I just don't know if the defense would hold up with them. I think that team could crumble enough to allow for a fairly easy pass.

So I'm watching the Bulls vs Nets and the Bulls look terrible, and the Nets look alright on both ends of the floor. Can i change my mind?

Atlanta would have been my top choice in any case.

Didn't the bulls crush the knicks by playing yesterday

TT has a 7 man rotation and plays his starters to death. Not good for back to backs, but the playoffs have none usually don't they? Hard ot remember as a Raptors fan.

I'm watching the game as well. Is it OK if I gloat while having a cigar and enjoying this small "told you so"-like "victory"?
