The main question is, if we want to avoid the nets, is is better to gun for the 3rd or 4th spot, no way to tell yet. Might as well go for 3rd in this case, especially if Miami can catch Indiana (pretty likely). There is a small, very small chance that we could get to the conf finals in this scenario, while against Miami we have basically no shot whatsoever.
I agree and think that 3 is the best option regardless of who we play in the first round. Getting through the first round will be difficult against any of the other mid-east conf. teams but at least we'd have home court advantage. Then, if you do win a series, you'd much rather play Indy than Miami.

Getting ahead of ourselves a bit but it's still fun to think about. Lots of basketball left.

I see Miami getting the first seed. We need to keep the third seed and then let whatever happen, happen.

Tell you what. All this weak eastern conference business is over. This conference has changed. Used to be the concern was Indy and Miami. We're down to Atlanta and Washington for a supposedly good matchup for safe passage to the 2nd round. But my concern is that there is no room for error in the playoffs and our weaknesses are ones only experience will solve. I'm just picturing Ross' and JV's eyes in my head under playoff pressure and I'm not liking what I see. I'd say if you are going to a playoff game, hurry up and go. Early.

they're in 5th spot now, and chances are they're not going to drop back to 6th

Here are the standings, only 1 game today

Standing:

3. Toronto 36-27 -----> 0
4. Chicago 35-29 -----> 1.5 Games Behind
5. Brooklyn 33-30 -----> 3.0 Games Behind
6. Wizards 33-31 -----> 3.5 Games Behind

Games today:
March 8
Bulls vs. Rockets

The nets win yesterday is a blessing in disguise. This gives us a better chance to play the wizards. We just need to hold on to that 3rd seed with 19 games left

the top 5 real standings in reverse order
btw the magic number stands at 6, considering the tie-breakers. What's the earliest we ever qualified for the playoffs?

Was hoping we'd have a 2 game lead over Chicago right now.

our last month will be fairly easy, so even if we fall to 4th during the next 2 weeks, we can return to 3rd if we do well in april.

3. Toronto 37-28 -----> 0
4. Chicago 37-30 -----> 0.5 Games Behind
5. Washington 35-30 -----> 3 Games Behind
6. Brooklyn 34-31 -----> 2.5 Games Behind

If we lose tomorrow we could see our lead on Brooklyn dwindle to 1.5 with our next game vs OKC.

yeah, but the last 3 weeks we have a fairly easy sked, we should be able to hold them off, unless we collapse and start losing to milwaukee and nyk.

it's chicago that's going to be tough to keep ahead of

i don't care if chicago takes 3rd, as long as we have home court.

Agreed. It would be nice to see the Raps have home court advantage for at least the 1st round.
