Sorry, but 6 mill will by no means get us any sort of "top end Talent" not even by a long shot.....Turk and Poo cost 10mill/5 years.....Toronto is unable to get any sort of talent for any price sadly......

I don't know if anybody has a clear idea of what his skillset is, let alone what it will be. He's been all over the place as a player. There does appear to be a natural grittiness that Casey is looking for. Hopefully he can consistently fill a role, but it's hardly a sure bet.

i wasnt happy with this landry fields signing when it happened.. Ive heard and read a lot about people saying they believe that he'll develop into a better player away from Melo and under Casey, hopefully thats true. But thats a lot of money to be paying someone hoping that they'll play a lot better than they did last year.

I'm also hoping we start next season with 2 young SGs and one real SF... not 3 young 2/3s but thats just me hoping and also fit for a whole other thread. At the end of the day i think we're overpaying a player that we dont need (unless BC plans on getting rid of Derozan) ... Hopefully i'm proved completely wrong though.

not many sure bets out there tho is there? The natural grittiness is what he will have been signed on the basis of, he will fit in, no problems there.

the skillset, well surely you believe he can recreate (or close to) the level of his rookie year? i think i'm right in saying he played 81 games in his rookie year, not a small sample size.

I'm hopeful, as I liked him a a rook, but I have a couple concerns. One, as much as Melo might have been a cause of a decline in year two, his good rookie season might have been positively skewed playing Dantoni's system. Two, there's just been a pattern of over-reaching with players. I do feel good if Casey had a lot of input, but then again I hope he didn't mention how much he liked Landry, as in Carl, just to have BC see the name in his notes and match it up with the RFA with that first name.

I don't see a great deal of clarity with the acquisition, and that is one thing I'm really looking for over the next year. So hopefully that clarity arrives eventually with a future move, and with what he shows us.

If a player can look decent defensively in D'Antoni's system, you have to feel pretty good about that. So perhaps that offsets the concerns about his offense being amplified under D'Antoni's system.

I'm curious as to what kind of numbers people would expect out of him in order to "justify his contract".

Anyone want to throw some out there?

I would be more than happy with him in and around 10/5/3 with good shooting numbers and tough D. This will obviously depend on the number of minutes that he gets (and whether or not DD is still here come the end of the summer).

Landry Fields - G - Knicks
The Knicks may be ready to match Toronto's three-year, $19 million offer to SG Landry Fields.
Luxury tax is not an issue simply because the Knicks don't care about it, but it does sound like they'll wait the entire three days before making the decision. And at this point, it sounds like there's a 50 percent chance the Knicks will match.

BC's look just got more intensely absent. People have seen him sitting in the corner mumbling something to himself while trying to cross all fingers at once, after the news came out about Knicks potentially matching Fields' contract.

So unfair that for some teams lux tax is just not an issue
They take three days and match. Use Fields later as a trading chip to get Paul

meh

And after three days only SF options to sign will be Weems and Ronnie Brewer

But that's pretty much Westbrook, Durant, LeBron, Wade money.

I'm sorry, but we're going to need another CBA lockout.

Something along the lines of...

Michael Beastly numbers / 6 * 6.7
Lou Williams numbers / 5*6.7
J.R Smith numbers / 2.8*6.7

The disappointment isn't in the player - it's in the contract.

Jack Armstrong said it best - love the player, hate the contract. Really, we'll all be happy if he plays really well and he is an 'intangible' type of player so the numbers won't tell the whole story - but none of that will take away from the fact that it's a shitty contract.

It's a shitty contract because the general consensus from the apparent "people in the know" is that Collangelo overpaid to block the Nash deal.
