Arrow Feschuk: Raptors grapple with communication breakdowns

Quote:
The Raptors held an hour-long team meeting on Friday morning to discuss key issues affecting their down-spiralling season.

Among the topics on the agenda: The need for better communication between the players from North America and the ones from Europe.

"A lot of times we let the simple things a guy being from Italy make the decision on whether you want to talk to that guy, or to the next guy," said Antoine Wright, the California-born reserve swingman. "If we want to win, we need to talk to each other. (The meeting) did a good job in addressing that problem."

Asked if there was a split between the players from different sides of the Atlantic Ocean and the Raptors employ six players born in Europe Chris Bosh, the Texas-bred captain, said: "It wasn't a split, in my opinion. It was more so just not knowing how to relate to different guys. Sometimes you're going to want to call somebody out if they don't rotate (on defence). Instead of calling somebody out because they didn't do their job or they're not playing hard, we kind of just kept it quiet. The more quiet you are, sometimes things get divided ... We can't be afraid to challenge each other. It's for the better sake of this team."

LoL wouldn't it be funny the reason our players suck at communicating on the defensive end is because of all the different accents?

Sounds good. Let's see what happens in these next couple games.

Defense is alot about effort and comunication. You work hard and communicate you can make stops, and this team proved that early on in the season.

Is this for real? WTF, are they 8 years old? What do these guys need, their moms to come over and organise a playdate?

What did Aaron Rogers do to try to build a bond with his offense after Favre left? He had them over to his house on a weekly basis to build a relationship.

Whereas our guys can't even communicate ON THE COURT? In one case, after FOUR YEARS together ? The players need to take some goddamned initiative, this is ridiculous. If they don't do it themselves. Make them, call it "off court practice" or something, do three legged races I dont care! Do something, ANYTHING. I cannot believe this has taken so long to boil up.

I'm about to have an aneurysm.

getting a feeling that the raps are gonna explode againist the wizards today. It seems that they all have something to prove individually and as a team.

Quite frankly, we explode every night. On offense. We're one of the best offensive teams in the league, and currently rank #4 in the league in team scoring!

The real question is, are we going to put in the effort on D to come away with the win or not. We allow an absolutely atrocious 111 points a night, good for second worst in the L (the worst is, unsurprisingly, Golden State, the other team that gives up double digit points virtually every night).

Default Communication Breakdown

I knew this was the problem the whole time the american born players on the Raptors not knowing how to communicate with the euros on the team and vice versa, they should bring in a professional to teach these guys to communicate if they expect to be a team
