Default FAN590: JO Still Not in Game Shape

Kind of stating the obvious seeing how most of us already noticed this during preseason, but Sherm was on FAN590 this afternoon reconfirming that O'Neal still isn't where he needs to be regarding conditioning.

I like that the team is taking things slowly. They could have played him bigger minutes pre-season, but they have to think longterm and not worry about the first few games.

I think even by the lowest non-story standards this is a non-story.

Didn't he take a ton of shit here the other day for not being in shape after three months of training?

I heard Reggie and the Czar pointing out how Oden still isn't in game shape last night. Surely, he should be there already too, especially considering he's younger.

Right?

It's so weird, we got nonstop stories of him working for for months and months, eating a very strict diet, and he's still not in game shape. What gives?

I would imagine he isn't in game shape yet either. But with a 17-8 start (and thats with awful shooting in the first quarter) I sure can't wait until he is...

That's good ... if he isn't in game shape, still being able to play like that, what can I say? Welcome to Toronto, Jermaine!

We can't deny that he had a pretty rusty pre-season. I'm sure i wasn't the only one who was worried... but wow, did Oneal ever deliver yesterday. 2nd quarter on, he was vintage JO out there.

Got a little worried when DEvlin mentioned that he wasn't on the bench at one point, but i guess it was just a muscle stretching issue - so no worries there. he's always going to have question marks about his health for the rest of his career now, but for the most-part i'd say Jermaine's game looked pretty "mid-season" form to me.

What Funkie said - not in game shape doesn't mean out of shape!

The dude looked pretty good last night, didn't he? Especially that driving dunk - OMG, I was so impressed with his elevation, I actually yelled at the TV.

Game shape to me means reaction time, silly fouls or lack thereof, decision-making - and yes, stamina as well. We have to remember that the guy didn't play regular starter minutes vs. NBA opposition for about 3 season. I'd think that by Xmas, barring injury-related setbacks, he will be fully into the swing of things.
