Exclamation Evans sets a target for return

Good news, but just don't go all Lemon Murray on us.

Quote:
It has been the most repeated question of the Raptors season: When is Reggie Evans going to play?

Try Feb. 17, Toronto's first game after the NBA's all-star break, at home against the Memphis Grizzlies.

At least that's the answer Evans, the defensive specialist who hasn't played a game on account of a pre-season foot sprain, was giving on Tuesday.

And even if the date is a goal more than a set-in-stone promise, it's better than the previous stock answer to the question of when he'd return specifically, that nobody in the organization had any real idea.

"That's my goal, the game after all-star," Evans said. "My spirit's real high. My energy is getting there. ... But don't congratulate me just yet."

It's the same injury that ended Eric Montross' career, so they are making sure it is completely healed.

I've heard several times now that Evans would be back in x weeks, with these targets/deadlines/whatever you wanna call them always being missed. I'll know he's back when he's on the floor. Frankly, I'm not even all that sure that the Raptors miss him: Amir gives the same energy and hustle at the 4. Reggie should stick to cheerleading, as he seems to do that pretty well.

The first player that came to my mind was Amir as well. It will be interesting to see how Triano deals with the rotations.

Here's hoping Reggie will be one of the best rebounders/defenders on this team because i have a feeling that many fans will be cursing out his offensive game.

Amir and Reggie are the backups at the PF/C positions so they'll get their 15 mpg

Those damn Celtics have been our arch nemesis all season. Not only do we look like schoolboys when we play them, they are the ones responsible for injuring Reggie. That big fat dude, Sweeney did it. Hate to say it, but if we play them first round, we will lose every game. We have a better chance of beating Orlando or Cleveland. Maybe someone can knock them off for us. Chicago almost did last year. Reggie's biggest attribute will be his leadership and his rebounding and defence. All things that would make a huge impact for us because he will shore up alot of our biggest weaknesses.

Can't wait to have him back. I just hope he doesn't cut into Amir's minutes. IMO he'll be used at the same time as Amir instead of it being Amir and Bargs/Bosh

I dunno man that's a pretty offensively challenged front line. With Turk playing like he is I don't know if there are three wing players that can pick up the slack with a front line like that.

I'm really interested to see where Evans fits into the rotation. He's extremely similar to Johnson so there will be a little bit of redundancy there. It might come down to who does the dirty work better to be honest.

He's no spring chicken. We shouldn't expect much.

Great team player, attitude, toughness, rebounds, etc
Triano needs to be careful on how in brings him back in the rotation / or not.

The guy looked like a slow train out of control on offense during the pre-season.

I lost all respect for this journalist when he refers to Evans as a "defensive specialist" lol

He'll help more on practice. Giving some elbows to killer Bs will help a lot.
