What would each man bring to the team that may not have been there this year? What would this mean for the existing staff?

Matthew S, Thornhill

A: Thought I made myself clear, but I guess not.

No, if they are going to keep Jay, and that chance does exist no matter how many of you hate it with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns, I can see them adding only Iavaroni to his staff. But, if that’s going to happen, I think they should consider P.J. and take of the two.

The existing staff?

I think it’s been obvious since last December that neither Alex English nor Mike Evans, both of whom were passed over for the interim gig, are going to be back, I can see Gord Herbert sticking around, Erik Hughes could keep his gig as a basketball development consultant and Micah Nori should return as an advance scout at the very least.

Hiring Iavaroni and PJ as assistants would be a smart (and possibly "brillant") decision.

Both are great coaches who haven't cut it as heads coaches.

I'm on board.

you guys DO know that our problem is not the coaching right?

While it's a weakness, it isn't THE problem. We need a proper roster.

They'd be great assistants... .to a different head coach than we currently have.

Yup .... but I think in order to start off with a fresh look, making some coaching changes along with roster moves this summer will start us hopefully on the right foot this fall. I mean, did we really change much with respect to coaching? Not at all. Still the same crew minus Sam.

instead of throwing ideas out like this, why not assemble a coaching staff that fits the philosophy of the head coach.

having assistants from the previous hiring has never made any sense to me. don't get me started on how our current head coach survived the last three (?) head coaching changes and still remained on board...

A decision needs to be made on a head man first. Then that coach hires his own assistants. Toronto teams always seem to work backwards. Maybe that's why they're constantly going the wrong direction in the standings.

Jay is like some sort of mascot.

He will always be here whether he's the head coach or not.

i totally agree with that regarding past seasons, but i think he's done like dinner after this year.

I can't see him back on the staff.

I don't think he'd want to be back as an assistant also.

Just wait until he's gone and they add Leo as the token Canadian.

I was just starting to get to a point where I could deal with Jay next season. But after all this time to still have so many problems defending the paint, or the perimeter, and especially not being able to do anything to cut down the turnovers - something which should not entail a full training camp - I just can't quite fathom how he stays.

I'm still more worried about the roster though.
